It’s almost like we woulda been better off if our elected officials kept their noses out of season setting….seems like some of us said this would happen and were berated and called wolf lovers by many here…..

Shoulda left well enough alone and we coulda kept the seasons we had, now we’ll be lucky if we even have seasons once this shit show is over.

They never stop. 1500 wolves is in all likelihood way low. I listened to a podcast with a biologist and his guess was as high as 3000. So even if 90% were killed there would still be more than the 200 (I believe) that were supposed be in the state.

That’s not the point. The point is that when our elected officials made this stupid decision to put Idaho Wolves back in the spotlight they basically invited these lawsuits.

Anyone with a brain saw this coming…just as anyone with a brain also knows the new seasons aren’t going to do shit to kill more wolves….shoulda just left well enough alone. We already had the most liberal hunting and trapping seasons of any state, we’ll be lucky to have any seasons by the time this shakes out.

Nah, I like it when politicians have some balls. Idaho has a special set. It's like they are here to let the rest of the nanny states know they will not be the next California soy boy pit stop. Like when they proposed a law to never allow legal mmj ever regardless of the feds. Having some spine is a rare treat in the world today.

So you like that there is a new lawsuit because of their ignorance?

It sounds like the lawsuit doesn't have anything to do with the new regs. Saying snares could catch lynx and griz is an old tactic used by the environmental terrorists in other states. The ESA is broken and not being used as it was intended.

Any snare could catch a griz especially since a wolf snare would likely not have a break away. You'd think most bears are underground during the snaring season

The first line of the article literally says this is due to the new regulations......

Somebody please point me to all the lawsuits that were going on in recent years before this new law by our idiot lawmakers came out....doesn't seem like much had been happening on that front in Idaho....then the elected idiots got involved and now we are back in the crosshairs.

Some of ya'll are so emotional about your hate for wolves that you fail to see and recognize what should be right in front of your face.

I'll also say it again even though nobody will read it, Elk will be the next thing our lawmakers get involved in, ya'll gonna have their back when they want to get rid of those pesky elk to save the ranchers?

The government shouldn't have got involved in season setting, period, that's why we have a Fish and Game Commission.

Yep, the writing was, and is, on the wall.

There has, and will always be lawsuits… the new regulations have nothing to do with it.

IDFG couldn’t manage the wolves, so our elected officials did. And if you think new regs are not going to make a difference, sit back and watch. 😎

How was IDFG management stopping people from actually going out and putting in effort? The vast majority of hunter killed wolves are incidental to elk or deer hunting. There are a handful of trappers putting in genuine effort but lots find it hard and quit. I think a lot of people that harp on wolves couldn’t kill one even if ut walked up to their barstool

Spot on. Now with CWD finally showing up and folks pushing studies showing that wolves are the answer to that problem, we are in for a slog. There isn't one thing in the new regulations that is going to increase wolf harvest. Elk on the ranches in S. Idaho are up next to the plate.

That's the problem right there.... most people who want to whine about wolves just sit back and watch and don't get off their ass to go out and actually hunt them.....if more people ran their legs instead of their mouths we'd have less wolves.

At the end of the day consistency matters.

Go ahead and set the precedent that lawmakers should have a say in game management. Wonder how often that principle is gonna work for us vs against us?

Hunters are all about letting biologists handle science based management when referendums to end bear hunting pop up. Then when it suits us we sing a different tune.

Makes us look stupid and self-serving, which invalidates the whole "hunting is conservation" thing in the eyes of the public.

Is snaring a new tool to kill wolves in Idaho? It is the most effective way to kill wolves in the winter without a doubt. Why were the biologists against using snares? Snares are used in Canada and Alaska frequently to kill wolves and they also haven't negatively affected the lynx and griz populations.

There is no satisfying the pro wolf crowd. I assumed they would file a lawsuit based on the harvest targets.

Snares have been legal as long as Idaho has had wolf trapping. What is new is the legislature attempting to set seasons and open trapping earlier in the year
