Idaho Wildlife Statistics?

I've been looking for some sort of count or census or estimates on bear density in Idaho to help plan a spring hunt next year. (First time bear hunters, need all the help we can get). I just want to have a better understanding of what general regions have more bears and see how that compares to harvest numbers.

For example, unit 39 has strong harvest numbers, but is that because it actually has more bear numbers than say 33/35/36? Or is it more likely because of size, access, proximity to Boise? I think I know, but I just want to see how it lays out across the state if those numbers are available somewhere.

Also, if any dedicated ID bear experts wouldn't mind me sending some PMs for more specific questions that would be appreciated.

I’ve never bear hunted that far south before, but I can give you anecdotal information that I never go without seeing one when I’m hunting, and usually have at least one opportunity to shoot.

I know the basic guidelines for finding them, like 3-5k feet, rocky and rough canyons, chase the green below the snow line, etc. However, some units don't have hardly anything in that elevation range. Is it all in the snow pack?

How has your research been going?

The more people I talk too the more confused I get. A couple units that have been given to me as "bear hot spots" don't list many bears being taken.

Unsure if fall data is reputable for spring as well?
