I'm headed to Idaho next May for a spring bear hunt Spot and stock. Does anyone have any advice on hunting wolves at that same time. Some units allow electronic callers and I'm proficient with hand calls on coyotes? Are wolves as protective as coyotes shortly after coming out of the den? My favorite calls May and June for coyotes are pup distress, does the same apply for wolves?

Wolves are very territorial to any canine, so pup distress will work well for you. May be a bit earlier for elk/deer calf/fawn distress, but it’s worth a try. Get a membership to The Foundation for Wildlife Management(F4WM.org) and you might cash in on your trip, seriously though check out F4WM if you have a wolf tag and are coming to Idaho.

You will chasing a wolf this spring? I’m planning a spring hunt and have been trying to find where there’s a good population of wolfs to try and call. I hunt a lot of yotes so I’m guessing setting up a stand would be similar
