Idaho SB 1300. Fish and Game Director Would be a Governor Appointee

It's that time of year again, when the circus is in town.
Currently the director is appointed by the seven member commission. I don't think you have to look too far to see how that could go sideways.

Just look at Colorado as an example of everything that could go wrong. Unfortunately in Colorado, the Governor also appoints every member of the commission, with little input from the public. Appointees are supposed to be confirmed by the state Senate, however, they refuse to provide any pushback on the Governors appointees.

Passed the senate, onto the house. One doesn’t have to look much further than Washington or Colorado to see how this could head south for sportsmen.

Decent chance it could cost the state Harriman state park. Sounds like the family that gifted it to the state is threatening to sue if this passes or take the park back

Good point. This doesn't just affect IFG, there are a bunch of departments that will be affected.
