How’s the rut going in the south/west part of the state? I drew a November tag and plan on going next week with the cool down.

On Halloween I saw two bucks dogging the does pretty good, just wasn’t able to seal the deal on either of them

Yesterday, 11/2, I saw a few bucks chasing does. Biggest was a 4x3 about as wide as his ears. He ended up splitting off from them mid morning and sparred a bit with a slightly smaller buck. Also saw a few groups of does with no buck.

Was down hunting this past weekend. Didn't see a ton of deer but a handful of branch bucks and they were all acting rutty and with does. Headed back Friday

Last weekend I was in central Idaho, saw several groups of does but zero bucks with them, that being said I live in Horseshoe Bend and saw several bucks here rutting so hopefully it kicks off this weekend in the middle of the state.

Here's a question for all of you. Just got back from another 4 days of hunting, found a pile of deer and mainly 2-3 year olds with the doe groups, along with forkies, but bucks were acting rutty. We did find two older age class bucks that had doe groups but elected to pass on both of them. I will be back down again for another long weekend then again the following weekend if needed.

My thought is to keep tabs on the doe groups to see if any bigger bucks show up while also expanding the search to the outskirts of where we found the majority of the deer. Would anyone do anything different? Go to a whole new area maybe? I have 2-3 helpers so we can spread out, but even if we were spreading out to check the different groups of deer we still wouldn't be able to cover all the area we found deer.

Not in Idaho anymore but I’m doing exactly that in North Dakota right now. I’ve got a little chunk of public land that holds a bunch of does. There’s a really good buck that’s sitting on the outskirts of that public right now. I’m not going in to bump the does until I see he’s on unable land. Hoping he slips up tomorrow morning and comes to check them in the cut banks.

Just a quick little update from Idaho. We punched 2x tags this weekend. One we found a forky with a doe and after watching him for an hour, another 4x4 came in and pushed him out and took over his spot. My wife killed that one and then the next day (same drainage) we found a group of 4x does. After 30 or so mins of glassing them another 3x4 came in and we killed that one. We had seen does earlier with no bucks but I think if you sit on the does eventually one will make a play. We had heard that this buck was with the does the day before but he wasn't there when we first glassed them up making me believe it was just out cruising and checking back in. Just my 2 cents.
