They already had to buy a license to apply anyways. Not really any differenceControlled draw odds will decrease as a lot of people will have the hunting license already purchased.

That’s true, but there is a difference. As of December 2024, it was free to join the queue. In December 2025, the first draw of the year will garner attention, and more people will buy the hunting license to put their name in the hat for a general tag. Once a person already has a hunting license, it’s basically free to apply in the controlled draw. Therefore, controlled apps will go up, and odds will drop in my unscientific opinion. They already had to buy a license to apply anyways. Not really any difference

The outfitters have until July 31st to sell all their tags, anything not sold goes up for grabs as a second tag for residents or a first tag for NR when the tags are up for sale on like Aug 5th or whenever. It's in the regs. That's why there's so many tags available in Aug, along with returned general season tags from controlled hunts being drawn. Outfitters keep asking for more tags when they aren't selling what they're being allotted already.

Yeah, Im not buying a license to apply for deer then sitting out of the controlled draw.
Will this affect this season? Or go into effect for 26?
It all depends upon what general tag you drew and if you lucked out and your buddy has the same tag, why would you mess that up?!?I was always amazed at how many people I spoke with that got their general tag in December and sat out the controlled hunt draws.

I’m not saying it’s a bad thing actually glad it went this way the other shit show wasn’t even worth the hassle. I might apply again with this now and come hunt with my brother again. You mean like Nevada, Utah, etc? Idaho will hardly be the only state requiring a license to put in for a tag. They aren't requiring an additional application fee either, and those other states do.

Everyone that got a tag for ‘25 has to return it and then re-apply for it as a controlled hunt![]()
Gotta pay to play...IF you draw in ID the sunk cost is less than a CO tag and license.I wouldn't rule it out. People will be crying about paying $200 and getting nothing, and IDFG has been responding to the whining masses. This NR draw and the NR tag quotas from a few years ago, unit-specific deer tags, etc. are all recent changes as a result.
Not to mention them standing in line on the initial sale and buying tags out of the general pool for clients before they even use the allocated ones. The outfitters have until July 31st to sell all their tags, anything not sold goes up for grabs as a second tag for residents or a first tag for NR when the tags are up for sale on like Aug 5th or whenever. The outfit I’ve worked for here and there didn’t get a single tag last year in the general sale. Outfitters are honestly the most happy about the change from all I’ve talked to.
There is a massive difference between registered outfitter and “guide” acquiring tags. The outfit I’ve worked for here and there didn’t get a single tag last year in the general sale. Outfitters are honestly the most happy about the change from all I’ve talked to.
