He means, it's a Mormon town and as a Ute it probably isn't a problem for you.Somewhere in the middle IMO. Culturally it can be a little weird but if you’re from UT you may already be used to that. Some super nice people, some super messed up people and everything in between. Traffic was getting bad when I left that area a decade ago, the town just didn’t seem like it was engineered for the growth it was having
Oh this will be our second up and move to another state. Last time we just quite our jobs and took off. It worked out well.Go for it! Life is short. Experience other places & things if you can. I wish I could do that now or soon, but for now have to accept that life, career, & local family keep me in one place. (Family is a blessing!) . You can always move again if things don’t work out or are not to your liking after being there awhile.
But also some amazing white trash people as well. I was in a trashy bar at Halloween there one time when two women walked in wearing full KKK sheets and hoods, it was nuts and super uncomfortableHe means, it's a Mormon town and as a Ute it probably isn't a problem for you.
If you can get a job at Idaho National lab, they pay well above their paygrade.

This may come as a surprise but people are not obligated to sell you stuff they own.We went up there to go to work for INL, and ended up pissed off and didn't take the job.
This was 4 months ago.
We did a scouting trip.
Couple things to keep in mind.
1. We are Catholic
2. We were offering 1/3rd to 1/2 off what they had houses marked. Houses that to this day still have not sold, and what we offered was more than the buyer had paid for them. Because I knew the bubble was over and these agents were not ready for it to be over. Went through 5 agents. Even found a guy that was a fellow disabled veteran and he was still a turd.
3. Tried to rent, there are some nicer apartments but they are all directly under high voltage powerlines or within 100 yards of cell phone towers.
4. No one wanted to do a radon test, even though the entire valley is full of it. Kept telling me it wasn't required and I was being stubborn. I brought my $800 tester and got initials of 6-8 curies. Just walked out.
I am with you, and I get that. Boise and Idaho Falls housing bubble started bursting 5 months ago. They are ignoring it and milking it out. I don't blame them for that, but most realtors know that the market ebbs and flows. They are so used to California retiree money coming in there, that they are unwilling to take an offer to a seller. This may come as a surprise but people are not obligated to sell you stuff they own.
The INL runs busses from Pocatello to Rexburg and every where in between. That’s a pretty big stretch of areas that are feasible to live.
The bubble hasn’t burst, it’s falling into equilibrium. Selling homes for 20% over asking in 24 hours is not normal. Houses are sitting for longer but they are still selling.I am with you, and I get that. Boise and Idaho Falls housing bubble started bursting 5 months ago. They are ignoring it and milking it out. A year or two, with the 6% rates and they will change.
We met a lot of nice people, just none of them were realtors. It was a feeding frenzy like happens outside of a military base with strip clubs, used car lots and pawn shops.
INL didn't really have a lot of appeal once we got up there as a place to work. Especially for lateral money, and no pay raise like what was promised.
We have school aged kids, and all girls. Schools were ok, private school options were slight better.
It was supposed to be a great move, but I felt like an outsider. Catholics that have been there forever said they often do.

Realtors aren’t willing to make that offer because it’s a waste of time. Nobody is going to accept it so why waste the time? It also makes the agent look like a dumbass to take an offer like that to the table.
Nobody is judging you for being catholic, trust me. People that think LDS members are judging them are judging themselves more than they are being judged. Nobody cares. The worst thing that happens being non LDS in a heavily LDS population is you get a lot of food brought to you.
You also have free reign of any establishment on Sundays.lmao at the the guys complaining about Mormons. Yeah it really sucks having neighbors that bring you cookies and garden vegetable and don't throw parties all night or do drugs.
If the parents will let their kids be friends with other kids who aren’t LDS…If you have kids, they could have way worse friends then a bunch of LDS members.
