Central Idaho had bulls talking. I was there 9/22-28 and had bulls respond 5/7 days. Seemed like the action peaked on 9/23-24, running into multiple talking bulls a day over those two days. Had several bulls calling from their beds which was nice (we still didn't manage to kill one though). We had most action from 7800-9000 ft. When we started hearing wolves, we didn't hear a bugle for 2 days.

Good on you to get that kind of action as a new guy from out of state.

The tough part about archery is you can be covered up in bugling bulls and it can still be tough to get them in bow range with a clear lane. I enjoy helping with archery hunts but sometimes it feels like an exercise in futility compared to a rifle hunt. Super fun though with the rut experience.

Just got back , Hunted it for 9 days. way way way too many guys . The weekends were even worse. They need to caps some of theses areas .I got a few elk to talk ,but they were super quiet . Out of all the camps around us ,only one bull was taken . I Passed an a couple small ones 3x3 and 4x4 . We went in pretty far every day and saw more bear and wolf tracks then elk tracks . One good thing was we hunted in snow for 4 days . it helped to get a good count on animals in the area.

Hunted Selway again this year. Night and day different from last year. Last year called in 7 bulls and shot the biggest. This year, had 3 bulls sneak in silently to calls, but only one make himself visible as he was sneaking up behind us. Hunted 10 days and only got two bugles to respond, one of which was because we were right on top of it. Wolves must be playing a serious role in the behavior. Will be going back in November to try and seal the deal.

Smithb9841 : I would be excited too. All I can say is that I wish my tag carried over to rifle season. Good luck to you!

Bumping for late season tag holders.

I saw some elk north of Sweet last week. A few nice bulls and some cows if anyone has a Weiser tag.

Only a few cow hunts in Weiser zone left. Bull is done.
They were all in unit 32 so the OTC cow hunt works. Just trying to help folks out wanting to fill the freezer. I mentioned the bulls to indicate they were herded up. Not post rut bulls off on their own.

Wasn't trying to be critical of anybody. If I had been, you would know it. I think anyone who has a tag should be trying to fill it as long as they can. I am glad that exppi could get out and see some elk. I also haven't and don't plan to hunt that area but think that talking about specific areas on a post on a public forum is not a good thing. If I lived in or hunted there, I would not appreciate it.
