In the past you didn't have to buy a license to get in the virtual line for elk/deer general season in ID. I'm just curious if buying a hunting license in ID before applying is going to reduce apps in 2025?

The $hitshow they made of the previous system with the in person selling outfitters and “friends” dozens of tags at a time and also for extra price/finders fees soured me on the whole thing. Idaho for me is for sheep long term and bears or a possible wolf or lion hunt for opportunity.

I know 12 nonresidents that have elk hunted Idaho for the past 20 years, everyone on them spent the 195.00 for a chance to go back. It is only money.....

I voted not a deterrent. I have not and am not applying in Idaho this year. The License fee would be zero deterrent for me if I were planning to go.

The two guys I hunt with are applying in Idaho this year. This is not a deterrent for them.

I have to buy the license for another species but am having a hard time wanting to apply for gen elk. Might just do it and see what happens.

There is absolutely no reason for you not to apply unless you feel bad about possibly drawing a tag in the 1st draw and then not buying it, essentially keeping it from someone else in the 1st draw.

How are you playing a long game for sheep in Idaho? It's a random draw.
