I won a 300 WinMag. Should I keep, sell, rebarrel?

The good news is I won a 300 WinMag. It is currently making its way to me.
The bad news is.... apparently I’m a pussy and I just don’t enjoy recoil. I like to shoot as much as I can and I currently only get 20 to 30 rounds down range with my .308 Tikka before it starts not be fun anymore.
If it were you would you thread the barrel and put a break on it? Sell it or trade it?

I'm assuming it's coming to a local FFL to be transferred to you. If it's a new gun, you might trade it before transfer. Around here some FFL's will swap guns with you. Meaning you could take same gun in different caliber, or they give you that guns value on trade for a different one. Assuming it's a new gun.

If you aren't excited about a 300 get something you will use.

Exactly the same advice I would offer. Quite a few recoil friendly calibers out there these days that will outperform your .308.

Not to get off topic, but you might look at your form and the fit of your stock. You should be able to shoot .308 comfortably all day. That said, I don't want to be behind a 300WM for very long either and I would definitely be looking to trade it in for something lighter.

I agree with the above. The .300 has the large bolt face, long magazine and wouldn't be so easy to rebarrel into something with a lot less recoil. Just trade it off.

I approach the question from a different angle. For a solution that'll make both your .308 easier and a future 300WM better to shoot, sell it and get a 30 cal suppressor. It's a lot easier than you think and I'd highly encourage you to check it out given what you've said.

If you still have your .300 win mag, I'd possibly be interested depending on make and model. Happy to go through a legal sales venue for you or work something through an FFL.

I get shit all the time from hunting buddies for using my Tikka T3X .308 superlite, I kill more animals than they do with their 300winmags. I have yet to feel under powered with my .308.
