I need help picking a scope

I know this is beating a dead horse, and I apologize for that. I just purchased a left handed CA Ridgeline FFT in 28 Nosler. This will be the first “higher end” rifle for me. I’m an avid hunter, however 99% of my hunting is with a bow. The only rifle i currently own is a synthetic stock Marlin in .308 with a Nikon buckmasters scope i purchased probably 15 years ago for $600 as a combo lol. I believe it’s a 4-12x40 SFP and it’s really the only scope I’ve ever known.

This rifle will primarily be used for hunting trips out west, and some seldom/occasional long range shooting for fun. After reading/researching i feel like the Zeiss V4 6-24x50 would suffice for my needs, and it is priced well. I’d also like to suppress this rifle but that’ll be another day.

Am i on the right track, or should i be looking elsewhere? I know there are probably better options, but from what i currently have, to a Zeiss is probably night and day better. Thanks in advance for advice

Last few years I’ve rotated between maven swfa and zeiss…. would tell you between Maven rs1.2/ swfa 6x/ zeiss conquest 5hd… i will spend the money on another maven or get another tikka and wait for swfa to top it.

Nothing wrong with the Zeiss V4. My suggestion would be to look at the 4-16x44 rather than the 6-24x50.

If the budget goes up to $1500, I’d look at the Swarovski Z5.

Maven noted above is a good brand worth considering.

Post #2. Doesn’t mean you have to agree with the concept or results, but that link will take care of plenty of posts many would make. TL;DR - not Zeiss. YMMV

Thanks a million for your amazing response. Life changing.
Well…we give you several good recommendations and even point you to the scope drop tests and you pick a scope that has a solid track record of not holding zero or tracking. I had a stack of VX5 and VX6 HDs, so I am speaking from experience. All my scopes have been upgraded to trijicon and nightforce because they wouldnt hold zero. So I stand by my statement - you made a huge mistake. Good luck!

Yea, unfortunately I’ve seen poor tracking tests on Leupolds. Depending on how far you’re hunting, maybe do your own tracking test to see if you can verify one way or the other how your scope performs. The bells and whistles of modern equipment seem great and all but how it performs is the real test. I bet half the guys who buy scopes wouldn’t know if theirs tracks right or not lol.

And if a person listened to every single recommendation from people, they would be unable to purchase a single item. Doesn’t matter if it’s a gun, a truck, a shoe etc. Haters are everywhere. 👍🏼

Totally true, and I've fell victim to researching every different model/brand etc. after I've asked a question. I think the difference, at least to me, is that the OP asked for input and went with an option that was never suggested in this thread, and inconsistent with some of the posted advice. Anyone can do whatever he wants, but why post the question and ask for internet advice?

Different strokes for different folks unless it's on Rokslide. To answer any "which is better" question on optics just enter Swaro or Trijicon as the answer, If it's a rifle, just enter Tikka. I'm a second class Rokslider, I don't own a Tikka and I prefer Zeiss.
