With all this talk of the smaller calibers, I has rekindled a desire to get a 257 Roberts that I had as a teenager working at the LGS. I have never shot one but always have had this draw to it. Last night I found one in a Remington 700. From the serial number it appears to be manufactured in the early 80's, starts with a B, which would make it a 700 classic which makes it more appealing as I have the 7X57 in the Classic that I inherited from my Dad.

From the photos it appears to be in great condition.

I love the .257 Roberts and the parent 7x57 Mauser. I am selling mine, but only because I am unlikely to use that rifle anymore, not because of anything wrong with the cartridge.

Go for it!

Well my hope were dashed. I called the Cabelas in Idaho that had the listing and it was sold over a week ago. Guy said the web people are slow getting stuff off after it's sold.

It was a classic and it would have been cool to have the parent child cartridges in the same model.

As far as rekindled teenage desires go, it's very reasonable. Very unlikely to end in divorce compared to many of the other possible pursuits in that category.
@eric1115, it still could of lead to a divorce as I wasn't going to get approval for a new mistress.

Seems like this situation calls for getting a .257 AI built.

Haha, still better than a Camaro project car that doesn't run and sits taking up ⅔ of the garage in pieces for a decade and now you can't sell it because you have too much money time and emotional investment and oh crap I'd better stop talking because I know of a guy or two in that boat. Speaking of boats...

At least you can sell a classic 700 for about what you paid for it with relatively little hassle.

So..... what I am hearing is you have a 1/3 of a garage for a 1946 ford deluxe coupe that is needs to be reassembled and painted. DM me and we can negotiate price and delivery.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

But I totally get it.

We have two of the .257 classics in the family. One a regular Bob and an Ackley version. Great hunting rifles. My brother and I both started hunting with classics in .250 savage. Buy it. You won't regret it.
Edit to add i missed where it had sold.

I was thinking a basket case motorcycle would fit better until my number comes up on the waiting list for a unit at the self-storage facility. Then the Ford hot rod is a go!

You paid money for this? on purpose?

Just look past what it is now and look at what she could be. Get a crew together, get her running again...

So it's not running now?

Not so much.
