I kinda hate my scope...

A few years back, i decided to build my "dream rifle" without laying out massive dollars like some of y'all do. If I shoot one deer a year, I count myself pretty lucky.

So, I lurked Gunbroker for months and found a lefty Rem 700 in 7 Mag. Popped a Triggertech in and started the search for a scope...

I don't want some wanna-be sniper scope. I'm not gonna be shooting past 500 and I'm worried about turrets getting twisted while I'm moving. I wanted good optics, well, BETTER optics. I didn't have Swaro budget and I really still don't.

I settled on the Burris Veracity MAD scope in 3-15

and I simply hate this optic. The FFP reticle can just crawl in a hole and die. The focus is awkward and I just can't get comfortable with it.

Is there a SFP scope with a fairly basic reticle, no giant 'Christmas tree" looking thing, no giant exposed knobs, either covered knobs or ones that lock securely that costs less than a grand?

30mm tube would be awesome but new rings are whatever in terms of cost.

Maven 1.2 might be right up your alley. But just a hair past your budget.

I was a little skeptical of Maven when I was scope shopping. Had my hands on one of their rangefinder and their binos and I might reconsider.

Sell the Burris and that CRS1 looks EXACTLY what I want. A BASIC scope of reasonable quality.

That’s a FFP.

Check out the razor LHT.

Lightweight
Good reticle
Great glass
Illuminated
I have the lht and can confirm it's a good scope, very light. Reticle is good. My only gripe is the mag knob is very very difficult to turn.

Trijicon accupoint. Either 3-9 or 3-12.
Or the credo hx 2.5-15.

I have a NXS 5.5-22 in SFP Mil/Mil that I need to list, maybe a larger scope than you are looking for, simple reticle, bomb proof scope. Pretty much mint, I’ve transitioned to FFP scopes.

I’m not sure what bullet you’re shooting, but for a 7 mag and 160 gr Acccubonds a simple holdover reticle sounds interesting. Maven 2.5x10 SHR reticle has tics at 5 MOA and 10 MOA. I zero at 300, so that puts 400 yard hold halfway between center and first tic, and 500 yards is dead on the 5 MOA tic. Even 600 yards is conveniently halfway between 5 MOA and 10 MOA tics. Simple. 12 oz.

Trijicon Huron, Ascent or Credo for what you describe, and it will hold zero, unlike any Swaro, Vortex, Leupold etc.

Given your criteria, I’d do the Trijicon Ascent 3-12x40. I’ve got one on a 6.5 Grendel and it’s a stellar scope for the money!

It's a good thing you don't hate the rifle. I'm not sure there's anything harder to resell than a LH 7mm mag. Solid all-around choice anyhow. Trijicon, Zeiss and Meopta have models which would suit. Just watch out for the models that have narrow FOV.

I have a Trijicon Accupoint for sale in the Optics classified. I think it might be exactly what you are looking for with a solid, basic scope. Covered turrets of modest proportions. It’s in like new condition and very lightly used. PM me if you are interested.
