How does that work? Killing a bull on a cow tag? Not illegal? Why would you post this on a forum?
The real trophy in CO is when you can clip out the Female part of the carcass tag, but still take home antler or horns. How does that work? Killing a bull on a cow tag? Not illegal? Why would you post this on a forum?
What caused the antler issue?Drew a cow rifle moose tag in colorado this year. Showed up 2 days early to scout. Seen probably 40 moose and killed this one opening day within 500 yds from camp
Especially if it was a woman that had been doing the shooting. Definitely 6" in that case.I'm not sure how long that "antler" is, but I'm not sure I would have risked it. Could be 4", or could be 6" just looking through a scope.

i'll bet that was a nail-biter for that guy. When I checked in my Colo cow moose last fall, there was a guy there who also had a cow moose tag and had killed a small bull thinking it was a cow.
The CPW took all the antler measurements [which were greater than allowed] and made a 'decision', not to confiscate/fine, due to the fact the antlers were definitely covered by the ears.

Good on CPW. It can be tough to tell sometimes, and the guy could've just walked off like some d
Do you think he knew it had 4 long antlers when shooting it? I've had it happen with cow elk where it was a button bull. Happened once with a whitetail fawn also. It happensI'm not sure how long that "antler" is, but I'm not sure I would have risked it. Could be 4", or could be 6" just looking through a scope.
No I don't think he could have been 100% sure that they were 5" or under. That was my point. My first reaction looking at the pic was 4", but in the distance looking through a scope.......who knows for sure. We had a buck that hung around our house one year that had an eyeguard that I would have bet was only 4"........from 40+ yards away. When he was 5 feet away, it turned into a 7-8" eyeguard. Point lengths can be deceptive.Do you think he knew it had 4 long antlers when shooting it? I've had it happen with cow elk where it was a button bull. Happened once with a whitetail fawn also. Well, you've got to be sure of what you're shooting at.I think yuki's question is more along the lines of "shooter didn't know that moose had tiny little antlers."
