Is Colorado living expensive? What about the job market? The wife and I are planning a move out west as soon as she finishes her masters.

We wanted out of the Midwest and looked at Colorado (actually went there and drove the entire state) in 1997 prior to moving to Alaska for ten years, and ultimately Idaho for the last ten years.

Colorado *was* a great state, it is now a microcosm of California with loonies increasingly running the political system.
Property is expensive and greenies are doing their diligence to trash the sportsman opportunities there.
No disrespect to those there--it is gorgeous--but for someone looking to move West, there are better all around alternatives!

That's what I was thinking as well. What part of Idaho do you live in if you don't mind me asking? We lived in Idaho falls for about six months while my wife did a travel assignment.

If I could make a similar or better living in Wyoming or Montana, I would be doing everything I could to convince my wife to leave...

Born and raised here in CO, I'm the only one in my family still here, and the political environment has definitely tarnished our state, its only getting worse I am afraid...

I'm not ready to give up on Colorado! There are loonies all over...just the world we live in. There are still plenty of good people here. I've been all over the West and find our high country unmatched by any other state. I might be biased though???

so obvious that that was written by a californian implant that moved here just to smoke weed. They are ruining this state.

Your joking, right? I can't imagine Californians are moving to Colorado just so they can legally smoke weed. Hell, weed was practically invented, or should I say reinvented, in CA (Humboldt County). Californians that want to smoke weed, will smoke weed, legal or not.

You would be shocked how many are moving out of CA to CO only trying to make it a new CA. I don't think it is to smoke weed but more so they sell their house for crazy money and then move to CO where to them housing is cheap and try to recreate what they left.

I just think it's kind of funny, 30 years ago the same thing was being said in Washington state and Idaho. It may still be said in those places, I don't know but, 20 some years ago I lived in the Seattle area and the big saying was "Don't Californicate Washington state". I was just on vacation down in California and it seemed like just about everybody I ran into that lived there was from somewhere else. I don't know if I ran into a single Californian, down in California, that was actually from California. Just saying.

By way of comparison, we vacation every couple years down in Florida and it seems like everybody I run into that lives down there is from New York State. Lol

Trust me, if they are in Cali, outside of LA and yuppie OC no one cares if they smoke. It's also a hell of a lot cheaper and a lot more plentiful here. You can also get a 215 (legal medical card) for just about anything. If people from CA are moving there it's not for legal weed.

The housing is insane here though, that's for sure. But seems prices in urban CO is on the rise as well.

Personally Colorado would be low on my list of places to move to, everyone and their mother goes to hunt there.

I know for a fact people moved to oak Creek for only reason pot was legal. My son rented his mobile to the guy. After we finally got him booted out cuz he blew his money on his habit and not towards rent took us a month to get smell out of mobile for next renter to move in. He would sleep till noon, wake up and say it was a 6 joint day roll.them and start up. He was trying to get every one of his buddies from ohionto move out there

Very true. It all started in the early 90's, before that it was great. There never was a "red left turn arrow" in the state of Colorado until the 90's when it seems millions migrated here. Before that Coloradans had no problem figuring out a solid green for turning left. Now everybody has to sit at the red light with no traffic coming for 1/2 mile. And by chance when you do find a solid green, nobody can figure out how to drive through it even when it is clear. The other big one, and this one is from CA......EVERYBODY driving in the passing lane on I-25. There's actually supposed to be a law against that, but they never enforce it. And they still keep saying that they don't have enough money. They could make millions just enforcing that one law.

In 1995 there was an article in the Denver Post that showed that 65% of all driver's licenses being issued statewide were for CA residents that moved here. It hasn't been the same since. But when you've got every magazine in the country putting Colorado places in the top 10 places to live every year, that doesn't help. I'd guess that there have been just as many liberals moving here from other states as much as CA.
