I asked this a couple of years ago, thoughts on the new Tacoma (4 cylinder/turbo)

I had to special order mine when I got it. I’ll have to try and find a manual on the lot to test drive.

Peterson Toyota in Boise was were I got mine as they had a manual in inventory. I'm guessing they still order sticks. You can probably find something closer to you though.

Bought my 2019 6 cyl Tacoma TRD offroad in 2022 and it has been an excellent truck so far. Regular maintenance of all fluids/brakes and it has had no issues.

Much less room and much better than gas mileage than the 2003 dodge ram 4x4 it replaced. That old dodge still runs well and is the hunting/fishing/hauling truck till it goes to truck heaven.

Put 8112s, new leafs, winch, and re do the stereos/speakers and put another 120 on it. I’d love to have 2012 manual.

I did recently put in a new suspension :)—Bilstein dampers f/r, new coils upfront, add a leaf rear w/ a flip over-bolt kit—wanted a very modest lift, just a touch over an inch

2014 6cyl TRD taco, manual 5’ bed owner.
I’ve driven stick for 35 years.
If/when I get a new truck, it’ll likely be auto and definitely a 6’ minimum bed.

Do the new 4 cylinders get better fuel mileage than the V6? To me the Tacomas never made sense when the newer half tons get the same or better fuel mileage.
The fuel mileage out of the new v6 tundras is not impressive, the power is solid though. Only see a few roll through the shop that the average shows above 16. Which is crazy cause I drive a 12 year old diesel that averages 17 and weighs 8200 lbs.

I think the Tacomas are probably in the 16-18 range depending on the driver. Power delivery is nice in those Tacomas compared to the previous 3.6 v6. I hate the way those drive compared to the 4.0 or the inline 4. No low end and constant shifting to get any power to the ground.

I’ve owned every Gen, the 4th has been my favorite. Power and powertrain is fantastic coming from a 2nd or 3rd gen.

I just did 100k service on my dads 17 longbed sport 4x4. Last week. Coolant flush, engine plugs, diffs, transfer case, trans drain and fill, etc. They are great trucks as well. Complete dogs power wise and terrible trans logic, but an ott tune fixes most of that.

We had to go get some parts and i told him drive my 4th gen. Well that’s all it took lol. Finished up his service and literally sold the truck 2 days later. Found him exactly what he wanted in a new 4th gen.

The higher prices are freaking insane to say the least. Sticker on his truck was almost 50k, but I ended up with 5800 off. Just gotta play the dealer haggle game and put a bunch of them against each other.

Feel free to shoot me a pm with any questions. My uncles a master tech for Lexus and has nothing but good things to say about the 2.4. It’s beefed up in the tacos, but the base platform is now used in like 16/17 Toyota and Lexus vehicles and it ain’t going anywhere.

What about the power of the 4/turbo vs the 6 cylinder? Comparable? I know the numbers (hp/tq) are, but that doesn't always tell the story.
My wife has the new Grand Hylander hybrid with the 4 cylinder turbo charged engine- 28,000mi on it. I'm not sure if it's the same motor in the Tacoma.

It's got a lot of power but dang that thing sounds like it's working hard when you put the pedal down. She drives it hard and no problems plus she averages 36mpg in it. To give you a comparison, she only got 22mpg [I got 28] in her Lexus RX450 hybrid which is about the same size same driving for work. [FWIW, our kids still have that Lexus, it's at just under 200,000mi and still runs like a top- no problems.

I was a fan of that V6....time will tell with this motor but you can't argue with the mileage.
