What is your solution for hydration when separating your guide lid from your main bag and frame. Can you run your hydration bladder out of your guide lid when separated, if so what size bladder works comfortably. Do you run it from the main compartment, or the compartment the straps come out of? Anyone leave the hydration bladder in while the lid is attached to the frame? How does it work? Thanks

Based off the dimensions of the guide lid (14.5"T by 11"W at the base) a Source 3L Low Profile wide bladder should fit like a glove (14.1"T by 9.8"W) and still leave a decent amount of room for other things (the Guide Lid is listed at 5" deep and the bladder full is listed at 2.6" deep). I would only use this option though if you are wanting to be able to take your main bladder out of your pack when you disconnect the lid.

Personally, I would try to run 2 2L bladders or 2 1.5L bladders, one in the lid and one in the pack, but YMMV.

I run a 4 liter Dromedary in my Guide Lid. It fits fine for me but you will want to have other stuff packed on either side of it or you can cinch the lid down tight to compress the bladder against the pack to keep it centered.

This is a great thread. So instead of using the hydration pouch inside the backpack, you guys are putting yours in the guide lid?

Thanks,

Tony

Since the time I initially posted this question, I have since got a kifaru pack. First I'll say the thing handles weight great, and is very comfortable. Second, my 4l Dromedary works pretty well in the main compartment of the guide lid. The only complain on the dromedary, is that by the time you put on the "msr hydration kit", the hose is raised up by about 3-4 inches off the bladder. Has anyone found any aftermarket solution to this?
