I'm thinking about sending my daughter's rifles out to Best of the west and have them put Huskemaw 4-16 or 5-20 scope's on and build turrets both rifles are identical Tikka T3x compact 6.5 cm and both are using precision Hunter vldx 143gr. Any thoughts on this idea?

Keep in mind custom turrets are only correct for a certain bullet, at a certain speed, at a certain altitude, at a certain temperature. I’d stick with a standard turret and get a $5-10 ballistic app to calculate your own dope.

Yeah that is why I was considering sending them out there they do all that for you

On the scopes, I’d do the 5-20 Tactical over the Blue Diamond line if finances allow for it. The glass is better.

You can get a custom turret created which is similar to what other companies do. On the Huskemaw you can do a dual turret so you could do two different elevation ranges or temperature ranges. You can just do the regular turret and add a ballistic calculator app for your phone and go that route. Custom turret is easier but potentially less precise; regular turret is a wee bit more work but potentially more precise. Comes down to what you want and how varied the terrain and temperatures where you’ll be hunting.

I run custom dials on a couple of scopes. They work fine as they pretty much get used in the same elevation band and temperature range year after year. But on my “traveling” rifles that can see any elevation and any temperature I run a regular turret (using a ballistic app).

They should be able to validate your ballistics no matter which route you go.

Ditto what AZ and CA said. I would even do a free drop chart from Hornady before doing custom turrets. If you ever change a load or get new ammo you don’t have to get a new turret, just update your drop chart. Barrel could speed up after break in if it’s new as well.
