So looking for info on what the title says.
Who uses a vehicle other than a pickup for your hunting needs?
If so what is it?
What type of hunting and terrain do you frequent with it?
What type of gas mileage do you get?
Any pics of your setup?
Also if you had a truck and switched do you regret it?
After driving a ton of miles in my Tundra I started thinking there has to be a better more fuel efficient way to do this and still have all my gear.
I hunt most animals in multiple states and live in WA. Will drive to WY, CO, ND and AZ this year.

I’ve been looking at new vehicles and really wanted something besides a truck, but My biggest concern is putting carcasses, muddy boots etc inside an SUV type vehicle, while a truck you just throw it in the back.

I have been running a Chevy Trailblazer for the last few years. It’s been to Colorado a few times and Idaho. I just bought a Tundra and still have the Trailblazer. The SUV is nice because you can lock everything up. I have put several deer in the back of the Trailblazer. I have a rubber floor liner. I have also just quartered deer and thrown it in the back. You can get most ladder stands in the Trailblazer if you are creative. When we went to Colorado and Idaho I put two large coolers on a hitch hauler. I have put deer on the hitch hauler as well. It’s easier than getting into a truck.

My buddy has a Toyota Landcruiser. Awesome hunting rig.

I am excited to get a topper for the tundra. It might have a bed mattress in it. I think that would be a great set up.

I’ve got an 2000 4Runner (also my daily driver)for the rough stuff. I throw quarters in a a couple xL drybag duffles. Also built a bed platform down one side for quick overnighted. Gets 17-20mpg

Sold my 04 dodge 2500 5.9 and bought an all wheel drive sprinter cargo van. Slowly building it into a toy hauler/camper. Has a thermostat controlled diesel heater, can sleep 2+ people and I can pull my quad right in back. Gets 15-19mpg. I won’t go back to a truck.

Do side by sides count? We bought a Polaris General 4 and also invested in tracks and it’s literally unstoppable. But my husband and I treat this machine as our second hobby too and really enjoy getting four seasons of use out of it

We also drive our Dodge Ram 3/4 ton around hunting too chained up before we had the General. We ordered it with full front and rear locking diffs and it does great too but just gets big in some spots

We frequent a lot of driving on rocky roads and have done the soft gumbo in eastern Montana too. Regardless on what rig you decide to invest in good tires make all the difference

You really need to do a cost benefit analysis and I think it will quickly become clear that keeping your truck probably continues to make sense. I seriously looked at a small diesel sedan for long trips after I realized all my trips this past year could have been easily pulled off with a small sedan rather than a 3/4 ton 4x4 truck. But the savings are marginal. And while in a truck i’ve done trips with 3 other guys and coolers full of venison no problem in a VW wagon me and 1 other guy would be pushing it. I need a truck for work so my decision is made but make sure you take all things into account, mpg isn’t everything just do the math.

One other thought, bought my wife a 15 year old diesel sprinter a year ago, thing gets 25 mpg, was cheap and has a ton of room. The stand up height is really nice, I used it for work for a month and may in the future replace my work truck with a sprinter of my own, they’re basically a truck and get better MPG and are much more useable as far as internal space.

I grew up in PA and we hunted out of cars and vans for over 20 years. It sucked when icy but everything sucks on ice. We would put chains on with snow and we always found a place to hunt. My dad couldn't afford a 4 wheel drive. Later, I hunted out of Chevy Suburban for years but it got old, a lot of miles, too big for a lot of trails and horrible gas mileage going long distance. When it started breaking down and leaving me stranded, I traded it for a diesel engine Colorado with front and rear locking diff. Best decision I could have made. Getting over 26 mpg highway. Enough room for my equipment and small enough to go up jeep trails.
A lot of vehicles can get you to a trailhead. Use what you got and go.

Prefer no vehicle areas w our own quads but love our 2004 GMC Yukon XL 2500 w big block engine. 12 mpg up hill or downhill w sunshine and a tailwind. 250k miles, BFG KO2 tires and good ground clearance. The beast goes anywhere and back. Never runs out of room for one more thing. Seats out, blue tarps in, load it w gear or deer. Much more room than pickup truck w length. Love it like the family dog, Unfortunately, the last of its breed, thank you government motors.

Lil bit different but I use my dualsport dirt bike. Last year our spot for muleys in Idaho was about 30 miles back in and took 2 1/2 hrs with a truck to get to. It took me 1 1/4 hrs with my bike and we would use to scout out different locations. Saves us alot if time. Got a different bike (ktm) this year and can't wait to take it out. Have yet to try packing out a deer with a dirt bike lol

Tough to beat a 4Runner for a do all vehicle. We have one as well as a Jeep JKUR and a PU and it's a nice blend of on and off road ability.
I could never go without a PU.
