Pretty funny. The one that always gets to me is when they are tracking an animal after a shot and look all surprised as they run up to the animal and the camera sitting right next to it. That and the overacting on the "staged" shots that you know weren't filmed live. I get that it is part of the entertainment and it fills in the story a bit but too much and it just becomes hokey to me.

I don't know why but what drives me nuts is the guys whispering into the camera. I like how Eastman's does it by breaking away from the action and just narrating what is going on.

I agree 100%. I love Meat Eater and SOLO Hunters. I have watched a couple episodes of Western Hunter, it was pretty good. I will sometimes watch Eastman's, if it looks interesting. The rest of them suck. I forgot about the 2 episodes of Alaska Outdoors, with Luke and Becca, I enjoyed those too.

Meat eater, western hunter, eastmans, outback outdoors, fresh tracks and team elk are what I like. That was hilarious and spot on.

While I couldn't agree more with his article I think there is a bit of the proverbial pot calling the face painted kettle black going on. I watch hunting shows when I'm home with my son as most don't have any language he shouldn't pick up and he likes the animals. I figure they are way better than barney and big bird. When I read the article I started thinking, is this the same guy that was on the tv the other day who told his wife how great of a shot she made through the guts of an antelope buck whill looking like the old "black face" commedian. Follow the link in the article and see for yourself it was the third video clip down. He perhaps should have listed an 8th deadly sin. If you make a bad shot on camera don't talk about how great it was and then show an exit wound through the back ham.

This should be mandatory reading for most of the BOZO's on a hunting show. Spot on!

Oh yea, and the whispering, give it up!!

Stop drinking the Hateraide and don't watch . Sooooo many feel the need to judge others and pressure them to conform to their beliefs. Worst yet is the "there should be a law against that" types. Nothing mentoined has anything what so ever to do with your hunting or your life. If they want to gratuitously celebrate in thier local vernacular while wearing gay assed clothes and makeup that doesn't effect you at all. The whispering and staged celebrations are just bad acting. There seems to be many here who are very worried about how they compare to others and how others hunt. In the end the bottom line is we are there to harvest an animal and how we go about it is an individual choice and shouldn't be judged by others. I had solemn celebratory feelings sometimes and sometimes I will get pumped up and yell and scream. Sometimes I paint my face to get in character and sometimes I wear a face mask . All in all if I don't care for the way a show is conducted or edited then I leave ( I don't own a TV ).

The author nailed it. I havent watched hunting shows for about 15 years. I don't know why but I generally hate hunting shows. I stopped watching them about the time I stopped getting the Bowhunting magazines because they were just cluttered advertisements interspersed with pictures. When did archery hunting become some fancified game where everybody needs the newest and greatest gear. Archery used to be the hardcore guys that wore wool and made whatever gear they had work for them. It wasnt about catch phrases and clicks. Somewhere along the line we got took. I guess I'm getting old. Rant over.

Some good comments here.

I agree with Shrek that it's a free country and we don't need any calls for more laws or bureaucracy . But, maybe the hunting community can and should police itself a little (with peer pressure, not more rules). What's done and said on TV is what 80 perfect of the population will judge us by, and they are voters too. I work with some highly educated, highly influential people who think we're a bunch of DBs because we hunt. I'm not shy about what I do and I show them, through pictures and stories, how hunting is an honorable pursuit.

And ya, the article was funny as hell, so thanks for sharing.

In general I agree with you and I always wear face paint, although it does not look like I am going to a death metal concert. The problem I have is these hunters are the (for lack of a better word) face of our sport. People on camera need to understand that and act accordingly, take ethical shots, hunt ethically but also respect the animal that you have just harvested. Getting pumped is great but there is a line. Between being excited and disrespecting the sport.

If the jeans on the $4 rack at the veterans thrift store have pocket flaps and fancy stiching then it's possible for me to get some but I haven't bought any yet. Lol. I'm wearing shorts from the $3 rack at the moment and there is nothing fancy about them.
The gratuitous celebrations and fancy pants clothing is a reflection of modern culture. Look around at the younger and more style conscious people. Look at sports and the culture that pervades there. What many of us find objectionable is the norm now. I try to keep in mind that every generation seems to object to the norms and customs of the younger generations. The guys who are attracted to being hunting show personalities are going to generally but not always be more style conscious and narcissistic. Fancy clothing and over the top celebrations are all about their narcissism. The shows are not about hunting really and more of a vehicle for their narcissistic personalities. Thing to remember is that they have tv shows , sell advertising , and have their fans. They are reaching an audience .
