I'm hoping to book a bear hunt for spring '25 with Wolverine Range Outfitters. (Wolverine Range Outfitters | Chuchi Lake, BC Canada | Hunting)

The 1-on-1 price for the inland black bear is $5000, but I'd much rather pay the 2-on-1 cost of $3500 per hunter, so I'm searching for a bear buddy.

I'll be bowhunting, but I don't see any reason why I couldn't pair up with a rifle hunter if that's your cup of tea. If Pedro Ampuero can do it, why can't I?

I have total flexibility with dates. Chime in below if you're interested!

Who shoots first?
A necessary discussion! The answer to that depends on. . . well - it depends on ALL the things.

If the Blind Squirrel and I were hunting together, we'd first figure out what tool everyone is using. If BS is carrying a 300 Win Mag, while I'm carrying a compound bow, then I would take priority on a bear that I could get closer to, while I'm happy to sit back and watch while you get into position on the 300 yard shots. If we're carrying weapons with more similar effective range, maybe we just take turns on bears.

We'd also have to discuss what we're each after. Are you holding out for a trophy 19.5 inch skull, or are you happy to fill the freezer? Personally, I really want the hide of a color phase bear, so I would be happier shooting a smaller blond, brown, or cinnamon than a larger blackie.

In the end, the answer is just 'whatever works out best' for two reasonable people to have fun and maximize their chances for success. No rocket surgery required!

If I have a 300wm, and you only have a bow, you best just say “yes sir”. 😂 j/k. I don’t know that outfitter (I have very limited knowledge in this area), but I’m sure any good outfitter in BC (probably all members of GOABC) can put two hunters on good bears in a week’s time. Good luck finding a partner, I’m booked up for the next couple springs. I wouldn’t be afraid to do a 2x1 hunt in BC. Black bears are everywhere up there.

BC is loaded with bears.
Couldn’t imagine paying that kind of money.

I wonder if I can hunter host an American? I do it for folks in other provinces all the time… I pretty much only shoot colour phase mature boars and tag out every spring.

Fall bear hunting is a completely different beast. Go in the spring if you want a quality bear.

The following info is out of BC online Game laws about a "Permit to Accompany":

  • Has their sole or permanent residence in Canada and has resided in Canada for the 12 months immediately before the date of the application
A non-resident alien (a person who is neither a resident nor a non-resident) whose relationship to the applicant is one of the following:

  • Parent
  • Parent's sibling

Guess they wouldn’t want to cut into the guides money lol, I could always adopt OP? Haha

Good luck with your hunt though, that is some prime bear area though I’d imagine you aren’t very likely to get a Color phase up there. From my experience the Color phase bears tend to be in the grasslands and the like, thick woods of Prince George should be mostly jet black.

I do all my hunting in the Thompson Nicola and okanagan valleys.

wish I could commit as I would be all in. I have been to Saskatchewan twice...and wanted to do a spot and stalk in Manitoba or BC. I hunt with longbow or recurves...shot my last bear with recurve and hand made douglas fir arrow.... I love it. Best of luck....keep em sharp.

A desk, truck, stand and blind in BC
Know the area well, lived in The Fort for years and worked/hunted and fished all that country. Guided just north of there for years as well

The area has a ton of bears and they don't get hunted much. It should not be a problem filling your tag, it will be deciding which one. Make sure you pack a fishing rod or two. Chuchi lake, Indata lake, the Nation R and all the smaller lakes in the are all hold rainbow trout and some big lakers.

A bunch of grizz run around in that country, so keep your head on a swivel.

Good luck

Cheers
