Help me out here amigos/amigas.

SWFA variable non christmas tree mil quad scopes aren't available, and it seems like they won't be for the foreseeable future, if ever.

Price point wise, nothing else that to my eye in a solid scope seems available until you get up to the Maven. And its $1400. And after looking at one today, it seems pretty nice, workable. Not sure if I would say ideal, but usable for sure.......

Sooo.....is it crazy to maybe just get like a 10X SWFA for shooting through the year, practicing longer range, practicing dialing, maybe even do some NRL type of shooting, maybe deer hunting (usually more open country shooting for me) then also get something like a Trijicon Huron for Elk hunting close range, dark timber stuff that I usually elk hunt in??? I can literally buy a SWFA 10X and a Trijicon Huron German #4 3x9 both new for almost half the price of a Maven at this point.

Second option being maybe order 10X SWFA now, then get in on the next pre-order of the Zerotech S2H and hope it arrives before November.

Honestly I would prefer to just buy 1 scope....But I'm not seeing alot of options on the Market at a price that I can swallow right now.

No, not crazy at all.

LRHS2 isn't bad for the money
SWFA used market comes up frequently enough

But having said that you have a great plan and I wouldn't talk you out of it

I started with a 10X swfa too. Hunted with it for a few years.
Edited to add: if you are strictly shooting targets or having fun, I personally think you are fine getting a chinese Arken/Athlon/etc vs a 10x swfa, unless you are absolutely wanting the durability

Not at all crazy. I hunted whitetails in Appalachian woods with my FN .25-06 and SWFA 10x scope. It performed superbly from 80-200 yards (the longest shot I “had” to take). I think I actually prefer it to the 6x and 3-9x. With that said, they are both great scopes as well.

At around $350 new, I think you would be able to resell for $300 if you took care of it.

Edit - 3-9x scopes come up at reasonable prices about twice a week. The 6x are currently selling for gouging prices about twice a month.

Like Q said, the 10x SWFA is great for the money. I posted a similar thread not long ago and he convinced me to buy it. It came in the mail this week so I have not had a chance to shoot behind it, but I’ve done some dry fire and just looking through it and I’m very pleased with it so far. I was extremely surprised at how clear it is for only $350. It will take some getting used to the parallax being where the variable power ring typically is.

I really want to get the S2H scope also but it is just not feasible at the moment. My plan is to use this 10x as a target focused scope on my hunting rifle until I’m able to afford a better hunting scope. If that makes sense. And for the price, it’s not a bad one to always keep in the back of the safe.

I will check back in here with an update once I’ve been able to shoot behind it

Of what is available right now, the 10x is hard to beat for the price.
You could also consider the NF SHV F1 with the mil-r if you need to have something now.
But get in on the next pre-order for the S2H. When it finally arrives, you can figure out what to do with the Swfa 10x.

If the alternative is not having a scope to practice with, I would say buy the Swfa asap. It is far more versatile than people who haven’t used it would assume. And it will teach only good habits for when you get your next scope.

Why not just post a WTB ad for a SWFA 3-9? Seems like plenty have been popping up lately with the S2H scope preorders, so I don’t think you’d have any trouble finding one for $550 if that’s what you really want.

If you want something with a little more on the top end, used LRHS can be found for around $750. The donut reticle is a bit crowded but functional on low magnification.

Either one are solid value and you can always jump in on the S2H preorder that will probably show up sometime in the next year.
