My friends are Teckel breeders. They can be kinda scrappy.

Overall I think you're in somewhat of a bind. I've hung out and been part of the German breeding circles.

A teckel is a strict breed requirement, just the same as a TRUE Jagd. Not a parking lot dog.

High odds BOTH are gonna be pretty hard on fur and cute critters. Both are going to be hard to turn off.

Both of those little dogs...if they are worth a schitt....are gonna hunt non stop. Moles, mice, gophers, skunks, skinks, bugs, etc. They're all busy little bastids.

Circling back to this - I’m thinking Teckel right now. Apparently airlines have reduced limits to #20 or I misremembered.

Anyone have a breeder recommendation? They’re hard to find.

I am pretty partial to Rat terriers. Little fearless dogs that make great companions. Sharp as a tack as well.

His only handicap is that being so low slung tall grass will rub his balls raw and he gets chapped. Poor guy.

I have a Patterdale, she is a squirrel killing machine. Very much a one owner dog who has great recall. She does well with dogs she has been around, but any new dog and she gets aggressive around them. Loves to run and I have not been able to find her end point. The best and worst thing I did is when I first put on her shock collar (4 months old), I accidently hit the shock button and not the beep button. She did not like that at all but since then all I have to do hit the beep button and she will instantly come find me while out on the ranch, I have never had to use the shock button again. We have used her to track 3 deer, two on our ranch and one in NF and she found all of them. Very high strung when outside but has been known to sleep for hours while inside. Also good at nipping at goats' legs to get them out of the yard!!

My father hunted quail and pheasants with dachshunds, were wonderful singles dogs on quail. Problem was they would get on a scent trail in heavy cover and vanish, with itags that would no longer be a problem. My brother has a Jack Russell short which loves to hunt anything. And last dachshunds are killers, my gsp and lab mix will corner squirrels on the ground but not kill, the dachshund goes around them and in for the kill. No mercy from the weiner.

I honestly thought same thing until i spent sometime around a legit teckel. Weiner dog on steroids with the soul of a cracked out gsp.

my neighbour is camping with a little wiener in grizzly country and it is barking like any dog if bears are coming to close. our actual griffon barks differently when it is a bear than any other animals or human. she doesnt bark for wolf ...

My votes for Jagd. If you run bears becareful they will damn sure go to head on a walking bay, like they are catch dog or something. They have zero F to give.

With any dog with strong prey drive, make sure and get a handle on them at a young age age.

but the cats ... i ve seen what they have done to wildboars: you do not want to come home with some parts left of the cat ...

Hi there - looking for a small pup suitable for hunting. Loyal lookout, stamina, and potentially blood tracking, don’t necessarily need a retriever as I hunt larger game most often.

I have an amazing Aussie who’s getting up in age and I want her to help teach a young one. I can spot game, tell her to stay, walk 100 yds, shoot, and she’ll remain in her spot until I recall. She’s also very protective. I like having a partner on “solo” backcountry hunts/camping.

Only thing is that she can’t travel with me on flights because of her size.

Is there a smart hunting breed that will be under #25? Jags seem like too much because I have 2 cats. Looking at Boykins or Jack Russel’s right now.

I'm training up a parson right now. So far very happy. We also have cats. Took a month or two to train out the chase but he's very good with it now. He's right at 20#. I did pick the one in the litter that was less "terrier" than his brother. Very smart. Good luck.

Welcome to the slide. Did you have your jag around small kids much? Was curious how they would be in a house setting with kids. I have some drahthaars and trust them in that setting and sort of feel the jags are similar in some regards.
