Hunting Bullet Recommendation for 270 Win

Barnes ttsx have worked well in a Tikka .270 I reload for.

I'm using the Hornady 140 interlock by with 59g rl22, and have some 130 Barnes TSX with 54.5g imr4350.

To be honest I haven't shot past 300m with them very often, I'm no long range shooter. And have bowhunted exclusively the last 12 years. The rifle is a winchester mod 70 featherweight so it's no super long range thing anyway.

They are more than accurate enough for hunting medium/big game and the terminal performance has been great. Good expansion, penetration and weight retention. For the $ they are great value.

Nosler accubond 140 gr. - Kills them dead everytime if you do your part

I’ve lost count on the number and species of animals I’ve killed with 140g Btips/Accubonds and H4831. Only one of my 270 Win (in a M70) that was different was a moose in the Yukon with 140g Swift A frame. I would not switch anything...

If you feel like you need to try something different... 133gr Sledgehammer from hammer bullets + h4350 is minty in our 270

my favorite load for the .270 has been the 150 Hornady spire point (flat base) with 53 gr. IMR 4350. That is a full pressure load in my featherweight Model 70.

Has anyone considered/used the trophy bonded tips (130gr and 140gr) by federal. Has decent BC and solid construction. I have some on the way and would take any advice.

I used the 130 interlocks over R22 almost exclusively in my .270 until the barrel wore out,,,
Below is a 500 yard group shot at 500 yards off my pack.

I’ll second the 150 LRAB. It is the only bullet I’ll shoot in my 270 anymore. I’ve tried them in three different rifles and they seem to shoot sub moa with very little load work. Last fall I was able to video myself shooting a cull buck at 475yds with my phone on the spotting scope. The down range capability of the 270 with the 150gr LRAB is impressive!

Hard to go wrong with a Nosler Accubond. IMO.

I’ve killed a lot of elk with 140 grain accubonds out of my 270. My rifle likes imr7828 but recently I’ve been having great results with RL23. If you can find some rl23 I’d try it out. You should get better velocity and it’s not temp sensitive.

I personally do not care much for the solid copper Barnes type projectiles. I have had better luck with the bonded cup and core bullets and the accubonds are by far my favorite.

I'm a huge fan of Nosler Partitions. 160 Partition out of my 7mm Rem 298 yards. Nosler is a solid choice and will work well out to as far as you care to shoot. Partition, Accubond or LR Accubond all good. I also use alot of Sierra Gamekings. Also very good.

To follow up on this thread, I just harvest a cow elk at a little over 500 yards with the 130 BT going approx 3000 FPS.

Cow slightly quartering away and I entered in front of the the last rib and bullet stopped in middle of the off side rib cage. The jacket separated from the core. I found the core in the offside rib cage. Not too impressed in a bullet that separated and didn’t make it out when it only hit two ribs and vitals at approx 2100 FPS.

May give the 140 accubond or 150 partition a try... but they are nearly triple the cost of 150 interlocks so may have to try them
