So I'm trying to pinpoint my spot and wanted to see what others do the 2nd week of season.

2nd week is always an iffy one on location. Have the bulls started to herd and drop off treeline or are they still up there.

So my question is - if you had Sept 4th - 12th to hunt. Would you get up to treeline to hunt or drop a few thousand feet and hunt lower. I know, elk are where elk are but where would you start.

Thanks

plan to hunt treeline and then pay close attention on the way in. if you find you are getting into elk, hunt em! so many elk get passed by guys going "higher, farther, and deeper," than the crowds. we found a herd a mile from the truck last year and everyone in front of us had marched right past them. they are up high too. if you can find old snow up in a basin, they love the tender shoots growing from the receding snow and will hang around there even into archery season. so, your right. they are where you find them. i would simply start at the bottom and hunt up.
