So can someone educate me? Why is the possibility of hunting grizzlies in the lower 48 seemingly off the table? I don't hear much talk about it. It seems that there are plenty in Wyoming.

Because environmentalists will fight it till the death just like the wolf issue, except they really love their grizzlies. As much as I would love to say its gonna happen, i highly doubt it will happen anytime soon due to court rulings and the ability for the extreme groups to file appeal after appeal for years to come

I might have some of the details wrong - but it's because as of now they are still listed under the endangered species act in the lower 48. There is a proposal and discussions in process to potentially delist them in the greater yellowstone ecosystem. If and when that ever happens - then the sates would need to set seasons, limits, tags, etc. Don't hold your breath - would probably be very difficult to draw a tag if / when it becomes legal.

I don't want to draw tag. Just control/manage them.

Head into one of the hunting units bordering Yellowstone in Wy, or MT for elk or mule deer. Prepare your food right in front of your tent. Store your food, tooth paste, etc in your tent with you. Make more than you can eat and dump the left overs right outside your tent door. Odds would be pretty good you would get to control/manage one!
