Following up on our Podcast #48 that gave a step-by-step process to hunt elk every year by using short-term options while building a long-term strategy, we put together this YouTube video that hopefully helps a few who might be thinking elk hunting is not possible from the tag or opportunity standpoint. This video is a bit longer than most, but in order to cover the short and long-term ideas, it couldn't be made any shorter.

Wyoming, Arizona, and Montana elk deadlines are behind us, but with New Mexico deadline next week, all but one of the options in this video are still in play. I hope to see you in the elk woods.

Didn't know Randy Newburg was on this forum. Thanks for everything you do for the outdoors! I try real hard to get others in my home state of Iowa to get engaged, but unfortunately not many here see all these issues for what they are since they kind of live in a bubble.

Hunt elk every year who would do that👍👊 I gladly pay for two nonresident Idaho tags and nonresident Montana all OTC...great bulls can be found in OTC units...life is too short to not hunt elk every year👏

What really sucks is when you have enough points that drawing your long term plan in multiple states is a real possibility, and you don't have the vacation time to do more than one hunt. It sucks praying you only draw one tag.

Thanks Randy for another good video

Unless one has a serious infatuation with antlers there is no reason why anyone can't hunt elk every year. And that excludes the obvious OTC tags.

I figure for a flatlander like me hunting cows in a good unit every year makes me a better elk hunter than sitting at home just buying preference points. And when I finally do draw a bull tag I've got some experience in the unit which is much more valuable than computer scouting. Other year round benefits are fitness motivation and hopefully meat in the freezer.

I applied for just points in Wyoming and Utah this year. Fell asleep on the Montana entry, if there are no Montana leftovers my plan is to head Colorado. I get three weeks of vacation time and between reserving days for the better halfs plans and my normal fishing trips I really only get 10 or so days to hunt out west. When it comes time to start using my points I'm going to try to split my efforts between archery tags and rifle tags. Hopefully I don't double draw but if I do at least the seasons wont be on top of each other and I can ask for forgiveness when I burn all of my vacation on hunting.

Non-Residents too. Life's too short to quibble over $600
^^ this..but it can be way more than $600 when you factor in gas, food, other expenses....but I hunt OTC CO every year as a nonres, license is $640 this year, so I get it....I'll give up whatever I have to in order to go elk hunting.

I don't understand folks who want to elk hunt, but won't go unless they draw a license or can't be bothered to learn a state's rules and regs.

Thanks for stopping by Randy and thanks for all you do for public lands and sportsmen! Was just listening to your PC with the HUSH guys on my drive into work this morning. Good stuff! And I've been elk hunting every year since I first took the plunge in 2012 and don't plan to miss a year until I'm physically unable!
