Howa Mini Rifles, Builds, and Upgrades

I’d 100% agree with this. My minis are built heavier my 6 arc is 9.5 pounds and my trainer 223 is 13.5 pounds sometimes heavier if I add weights for PRS practice. I never have noticed them being different from a tikka or R700 action. The actions definitely get smooth if you shoot a lot. My 223 is over 2000 and 6 arc over 500 and the actions are buttery smooth, and bolt lift definitely gets easier. My biggest gripe since having those guns the last 6 or 7 months is I wish someone made better mags. That cheap plastic and spring really go to crap on the 223 every 500 or so rounds. I love my minis in chassis but the 223 needs better mags. I can never find any of the discontinued MDT ones in 223 or 6mm arc.

How does your 6arc shoot? I’m looking at grabbing one for my son!

With factory 108s it’s pretty good! 0.4-1 moa on some 10 shot groups. I shoot hand loads now and pretty well the same. Can’t ask for much better from a factory offering in my book!

I bought a oversized bolt knob an it changed the bolt lift feel completely. still gonna clean it up an it wants to bind a bit so gonna work on it, but i can live with the lift now. it looks ugly, but works well. now to dial in a load

Gotcha. I was looking in the bargain bin and didn't see any Howa minis or real bargains. I'm wanting to try a vertical grip on as I think the stock that came on my carbon stalker is the sporter one.
Only seeing the sporters on the blem sale online. Might give them a call and see if they have any blems in the vertical grip. Thats how I got mine a couple years ago.

Mine are fine before mods its the constant falling into that second safety after playing with the spring or lowering pullweight that makes them crap. My current one i left alone and its a non issue.
I adjusted my trigger the other night. I did like I have with my Ruger Americans and used a ball point pen spring to replace the factory spring. Trigger pull weight is where I want it, but yep it drops into that super heavy pull when I close the bolt fast. Didn’t get it to happen when I close the bolt slow. I don’t run it quick, so may not be an issue I really encounter. Can always swap back to the factory spring, clean up the surfaces, or go aftermarket.

Suppressor acquired! With the 22" barrel it's definitely on the unwieldy end of things. Planning to drop it off at the smith later this week and get it cut down to 16". I should have it back by the time the snow melts off (Which around here will likely be early May).

Deciding between .223, .22 ARC, and 6mm ARC for a build for my grandson. Any option will have a custom barrel on it. Will likely go with JO bottom metal. Wondering about magazine length and max OAL. What would be max OAL for .223 with a JO setup?

Thanks,

John

Well I paid for a Stockys VGH stock today, will be very interesting to compare ergonomics, weight and overall feeling compared to my current Stockys Sporter
Ergos are nice think you will like it. Finish is typical stockys and ideally the lug should be bedded as it floats in stockys inlet (no idea why @Stockys thinks this is a good idea but it should be supported where the action screws atrach). The LOP is short and with some scope options this is a hassle (the maven. I would quite like to get my hands on a non inletted one as the form seems like it would work great from the kimber.

I won't be putting my Maven RS1.2 on it, thats earmarked for my 6CM once Murf gets around to it.

For now I'm still using a Leupold VX-3HD 2.5-8X36 which is a lovely scope but I'm pretty sure I'm seeing some zero wandering.
I've used the same couple boxes of factory Hornady 55SP for checking zero, 10 shots go into nice small groups but they do appear to be shifting with time/use.

Mag box is 2.47" for all three, the ARC has a different follower than the 223
