Howa Mini Rifles, Builds, and Upgrades

Anyone try reloading the 62 eldvt out of the 22 ARC mini. I’m helping a buddy load for his new Howa mini and we cannot get that bullet to shoot. Tried factory v-match ammo. Tried loading in alpha brass with CFE 223, leverrevolution, H335, and AA2230. Velocities from 3200fps to 3600fps. Has anyone got this bullet to shoot out of the Howa mini?

I bought the 50 pack of loaded ammo. Shot it to sight in the rifle and did a 5 round group. Howa Mini Action 22" barrel was 3210 over 7 shots with around a 2" group. Groups were worse with the 75 ELDM. The 80 ELDX and 88 ELDM were better and sub MOA. Did a ten shot with the 88 on the latest lot of ammo and most of the shoots went through the same hole but gave me 1.2" group. I may revisit the 62 grain load now that the barrel is settled in but that bullet wasn't an automatic thumbs up from my rifle.

Ordered the howa mini 6mm arc and b&c stock. Plan is to chop it down to 17 in. Will I be good to have that barrel threaded 5/8x24?
The sporter barrel is pretty thin. The heavy barrel should be good to go for 5/8-24 but the sporter barrel will probably need a collar to be anything other than 1/2-28 but talk to your gunsmith first.

1/2”.

Punched chamber to 6dasher, and cut barrel to 16”, not enough meat for 5/8”.

Have had no issues with DD wolf hunter with either direct thread or area 419 mount.

Gents, this thread is amazing and overwhelming! I have decided to do a howa 1500 build in 6mm arc and have a few questions. I want an 18 or 20 in barrel and have the 20 in my cart, but is that a heavy barrel as opposed to the 22 in barrel? If I get the 22" is it even worth it to cut to 18in if running suprressed? Next, I will get the JO bottom metal, but I'm a bit confused with which stocky stock is needed. Is this the one that works with the sporter barrel (the mini or do I get the regular SA stock) https://stockysstocks.com/stockys-n...lite/?searchid=227854&search_query=Howa+1500?
Any other lessons learned that would benefit me in this build?

I went with the 22” and cut down to 18”. Balance is good with a Scythe on it. Probably should have gone with 17” or 16” as others have said.
I’d also recommend as others have to shoot it first before chopping. My groups are 1-1/4-1-1/2” with factory ammo. I would have liked to know if it was the barrel before I chopped it. Now I’m chasing fixes to being the group under 1”.

Thanks for the info. I grabbed 3 boxes of different factory ammo and hope it shoots before I chop to 17".

Need some ring height help! I'm putting the Mdt 20moa picatinny rail on my howa mini and plan to buy the Maven RS1.2 - 2.5-15X44 FFP scope for it. Anyone know if I should buy low or medium rings?

I run medium UM Premier rings. I swap the scope between multiple rifles and use it for finding accurate ammo or troubleshooting issues with people's rifles so medium work best for me.

I followed a YouTube tutorial that showed cutting the magazine shorter so it can still accept the magazine plate. I also didn’t care for the protrusion from the factory.

I will caution, don’t cut coils off your spring. I found it to be unnecessary and can effect feeding. Had to also notch out the front of the magazine floor plate for release clearance.

It does make handling better. Holds only three in the magazine after modifying.

crud, i was hoping you had bought it like that. i dont have the nerve to cut my own. i might buy an extra an whatever happens happens but im not handy

Here you go mate

Same process for all the mags, leave the spring full length as the extra pressure from the compressed spring does help a lot with feeding.
They're cheap enough to just have a go at it 👍
