Howa Mini 6 Dasher

Nice Rifle. Reading KyleR1985's challenged with the JO bottom metal, what did you do? This looks like the JO metal.

Correct I also have it. I haven't had any issues so far. Cycles and picks up as well as it did when it was 6 arc. I've been playing around with the mdt bottom metal and windowing my modified factory mag to be able to run a magazine vs the floor plate.

You’re using hinged metal on the dasher mini?

What cartridge mag box and follower (assuming 6ARC)?

How many rounds can you fit?

Did you modify it at all?

I wonder what I did wrong.

Which brand metal is yours? How many rounds can you fit?
Jefferson, and 4 will fit in the mag, but I can't close the bolt with 4. So I run three down. Which for me is more than enough, if I use all three at that point I should stop shooting cause I have a problem or I've got the time to grab more from my bino harness for a wounded animal. Thankfully so far they've all been one shot kills other than this years mule deer he was dieing but could still see some breathing so put one more into him.

Dude thank you for posting this. I am set on building a 16" barreled howa mini after hunting with my 20" mini in 6 ARC. I have been eyeing this thread for a while hoping that something would get figured out so I could run a Dasher. I will keep an eye out and give the Jefferson BM a try.

@KyleR1985 and @Williammcinall . What COAL where you able to run the Dasher in the Howa Mini Action? Has there been any limitations due to the length of the action? I am looking at a few options. I would want to a 109 ELDM. I am just wondering if I would be able to fit it, especially if I use the JO Bottom Metal.

I just have mine to my gunsmith and said I want to make it 6 dasher. I've seen a few guys do it. He's very compotent guy and likes these challenges. I know he modified the feed ramp and I think opened up the feed lips on the plastic follower now that Im thinking more about it.

Same guy just took a Henry long ranger and rebarrled to 8.6 blackout for another guy.

P.R. Precision in whitecourt alberta. If you want specifics or your Smith has some

Im around 2.39 to 2.35 coal depending on the bullet and the jump I've found. Biggest limit is the magazine which is why i and I think kyle went to the hinged floorplate.

I've got a 20" barrel
108eldm 2862fps
95tmk 2992fps
90gr Hammer HHT 3121fps
93gr mcguire copper rose at 3134fps

All of these are more effective past what I realistically will be shooting. I wanted a short handy rifle with 500yard capability but more velocity than the arc to reduce holds. 90% of my stuff is thick timber to big cut blocks and wanted 0-300 i can just hold minute of deer.

That has been my exact thinking. I really enjoyed hunting with my 20" arc this year, but I realized a few ways I could shave a pound or more off the build, and I realized I wanted to try an even shorter barrel. I can make the 6 ARC get to my desired effective range, but I really have wanted to go the Dasher route for the extra velocity. What powder have you been running?

The howa minis make the perfect package for a light short build. Can't run suppressors here so went 20" i have a 22 arc im going to cut down to 18.5" to be more handy for big timber. And. Alpha brass and leverlution powder

How long is a 109 compared to the 108ELDM?

I’ve addressed a few of the COAL questions in this thread.

Easy way to think about it: with any bullet and powder, you’re going to gain about 100fps, or lose about 4” of barrel length, relative to the 6ARC, with the 6Dasher, on the Howa mini platform.

You may get 10-30fps or an inch one way or another. But that’s the basic math.

With extensive modification, and parts that don’t currently exist, any limitations would be removed. And you’d be left with a Howa superlite - that you can just buy tomorrow. Aftermarket metal exists. Run any dasher, GT, Creed with no limitation. It weighs less than the mini too if I recall correctly.

Here’s where it makes sense to me to do the dasher on the mini platform: you want 2700-2800FPS on 16” suppressed barrel with 95-108 class bullets, or you want 2800-2900fps on 20” barrel unsupressed with those bullets.

If you want to try and milk velocity out of 110 and up bullets, dasher mini isn’t the game.

That has been my goal. I want a 16" barrel, and I would like a little more velocity then the 6 ARC can provide me. I would also like to try and use Temp stable powders still. I don't need a ton of velocity to hit my desired maximum effective range, and that Dasher case would let me get their easier from a short barrel. I will most likely shoot the Tipped 105 from Midsouth. They worked well for me in my ARC this year, and they are available. I have contemplated the Superlite, I just don't know the weight differences. I don't know much about the 109 ELDM, but I wouldn't mind playing around with it.
