How to mount red dot for dmr

Hello all, I purchased an athlon helios 2-12 to go on top of my 6ARC DMR type build. I already had a jp 30mm scope mount I wanted to use so I painted it to match the rifle. JP sells a piggyback mount that allows me to mount a red dot on top at 90* and this is exactly what I was looking for. But, I emailed them and it only accepts their own red dot which is the j point. I found one used on eBay and ordered it. Just got everything together and realized the turrets are far to high. Emailed JP to see if they could cancel the piggyback ($100) and no response then it came in the next day with no return policy mentioned. Does anyone know of a spacer That get this lifted up a bit or any other options for the rmsc pattern footprint? My guess is I’d have to scrap the piggyback idea and go with a side mount at like a 45* angle…

Not sure any ring cap style mount would clear that turret. I'd look at 45 degree mounts from ADM, Reptilla, or Geissele.

Yeah I was looking at some spacers but nothing seems as it would make a big enough difference. Next question is would a 45* mount clear that windage turret? I also have a light on that side but no problem swapping that if needed.

Reptilia makes risers/spacers for red dots, but they don’t have them for that footprint. I think you’re either 1) going to need to change the mount to open up footprint options or 2) go to a 45 deg offset mount.

What are you using a red dot on a DMR for? I am not trying to sound like a smartass, I am genuinely curious.
I use them for work and competition where, in both cases, distances can change rapidly and it's faster to slightly roll my gun and use the dot than power down my scope. It can also help me line up a shot in places where finding a landmark is difficult.

Just for faster target acquisition if I have to shoot close quick. Itll be way faster than dialing my zoom back down to 2X and since it's FFP it'll likely stay at an intermediate range around 8X-10X the majority of the time. I won't be shooting any competitions with it (id have a much nicer scope if I was and have a 6mm creed more setup for precision shooting) but I wanted something more powerful than a 5.56 and didn't want to build an AR10. So with the 6ARC I get the lighter and smaller package and compatibility of an AR15 with almost the same ballistics and knock down force of an AR10. That new military round would've been awesome as well but I had to keep this build somewhat reasonably priced and it'll be hard to get ammo on that for a while im sure.

Which new round?
.277 sig fury... believe its 6.8mm cartridge. Itll have better ballistics than a 5.56 and has the armor piercing capability that the 5.56 was lacking.

Sig sauer won the government contract... go figure. So they have the ammo, the new rifles, and lpvo. Not certain on which branch has what. The designs on the sig rifle definitely looked more traditional than the other 2 options as 1 was a bullpup type design. They will have a suppressor and I believe they are a short piston system instead of DI. They look tacticool although ill never be able to have one in my commie state nor would I shell out the 9k for one.

I'm not sure where that project is. It did not achieve what it was supposed to and we are definitely nowhere close to fielding it as far as I know.

I’m not sure that a new caliber was the answer for the military. That money for the new caliber could have gone to marksmanship training.

Some of the reasons for a new caliber were increased distances to contact and improved performance against body armor.

Testing, testing and more testing. 75th Ranger Regiment got their hands on the system last fall for direct feedback to Sig. Tons of work to be done yet before the system is fielded by anybody other than maybe some super secret squirrel types. A buddy of mine is involved in the process for design/retrofit of gun lockers, transport cases, etc. for the new system.

Increased distances to contact? Most folks can’t score expert now.

Performance against body armor? We haven’t fought anyone with armor in 20yrs…..not that we won’t though.
