How to decide where to hunt and how to get there?

I know. Total noob question.
I’ve been hunting many times but always had the benefit of a buddy taking me to his private property.
Well, buddys in a box now (RIP) and I’ll be hunting public land for the first time, and I pull up OnX, and just don’t know where to go. I’ve been so spoiled I never really learned much about deer behavior outside his bubble of a property. I have the same question for Elk and Black Bear, located in Eastern Idaho

When money was a big issue, I always put budget at the top. It’s expensive to hunt out of state.

Now it’s a little less of a concern but I don’t wanna just waste money either so I always think about what am I getting by traveling further away. Of course I live in a mule deer state so I have options here. Maybe you don’t

Sounds like he is your neighbor.

To the OP just pick them, burn the fuel and go. Check them out now and see what areas you find with animals in them and pay attention to where you don't. It's that simple.

whoops, I need to read, scan.

OP, he's righ ^

& you're surrounded by deer country. Call the FnG and ask a few questions.

take your 4 wheeler out and glass areas at first and last light. You’ll eventually see areas where deer like to hang out. It’s a lot of years and early alarms to figure it out but eventually you’ll find some similarities. It’s just like fishing if you are a serious fisherman. Put the pieces together and always look for the repeating pattern.
