I have seen year by year pictures of a bull that never broke 250" his entire life. I have also seen several decent 6 points that were only 3.5. Very hard to judge elk age from the rack alone.
So, uhh.... Let's say you raise cattle, that are calved in the same May/June time frame as elk, and you ship your yearling steers the week of Thanksgiving, do you then sit around with the rest of the ranchers down at the co-op over breakfast, and tell them, "yup boys, I'm shipping my' yearling-and-a halfs' tomorrow"?Calving/when the elk is born is late May/early June. He was then shot in October or November. If he was 5 yrs old in May and then shot in November add those months to make him 5.5 If you have other Elk questions let me know
Did he help turn all those horns up? Nice collection! He is 5 1/2 good luck to you
When it gets back from getting a euro done on it I will take and post a picture of the teeth.

Who cares if someone wants to use half years, quarter years, or something else? It's OK if everyone doesn't do everything the exact same way.how old do you tell folks that 2 year old bull you hit with your truck the first of August is? Yep, kilt me a two-and-a-quarter year old?....
And that yearling heifer you shot during the February damage hunt? A year-and-three-quarter old cow?
good grief......
Come pick me up!Region is 4 states we do a lot of roaming @matthewmt If I gave more details wrench would string me up
