How often do you get to do this?

How many days do you get to hunt, trap, scout etc. during the year?

I was at 50 just between Aug 15 and Nov 30th last year. I honestly don't know year-round, but it's a lot

I'd turn to a life of crime before I wasted away in an office for long hours wishin' I was fishin'. I live where I live and do what I do so I can do what I want to do. I could do otherwise and have more money, but then I'd be paying people who do what I want instead of doing it myself.

It's not perfect by a long shot, but it's as close to the balance point as I've been able to achieve.

Yeah I've been thinking of getting on food stamps too but I'm too much of a gear whore and gear is expensive

How strict are we talking with “days”? If getting off work and taking the kids fishing for an hour or getting in the woods to hunt deer the last couple hours of daylight counts then I’m probably around the 100 number. If we are talking true full dedicated hunting, scouting, etc days then cut that in half

I was curious about how many full days totally dedicated to uninterupted enjoyment of the backcountry guys are able to get but it looks like most are including that after-work evening hunt/fish/range-day as a day out doing their thing, and why shouldn't they. 100 days out in the sticks/on the water is a blessing no matter how you slice it. Good on you my man. All these comments, including yours, about involving the kids showed me how little I include my 12 and 8 year old boys in my outings. Kinda feel bad about it. Definetly changing that starting now.

I’m fortunate that my work and home location both lend themselves to doing what I enjoy often. Hunting, guiding, shed hunting, food plots and prep work, I am well north of 100 full days a year. Probably north of 200 full days.

20-30 nights in the field actively hunting. Way more if you include shooting, hiking, fishing, etc.

Not enough days.
I think another good thread topic is how to make it easier to get out there. Does anyone else keep boots and camo in their car to quick change after work for scouting or hunting?

Funny you mention that. Drives my wife and kids crazy when they use the truck. The back of my truck is a mess of gear all year long, it just morphs from a pile of hunting gear to trapping gear and back to hunting gear at around April.

I never go out without at minimum a revolver in the truck and 95 percent of the time a rifle. The dash tray has coyote calls. Binos in the console, extra ammo of 2 dozen different types in door pockets and ash trays.

I’ve killed a ton of stuff and caught a bunch of fish in my work boots.

I was consistently around ~110 days for a few years there if you include fishing. Last 2 years, I’ve been lucky to get out more than 15 days. Life comes at you fast with 2 under 2.

Any other dads out there have tips to get out with young ones? We’ve tried a few times and went snack heavy and focused on having the kids enjoy it.

Oh yeah I am blessed where I live. On the family farm where we have quite a few ponds and a big creek running through our backyard so if we don’t have a practice or game for whatever sport they are all in at the time we’ll walk down to the creek or one of the ponds. The kids basically live in the creek all summer. Don’t feel too bad about leaving the kids out some though! I spend a substantial part of the fall out west by myself. It’s already hard enough to get a good deer down. Throw in a 9 year old and it gets real tricky haha

I voted for the 60+ days of hunting. That includes our 7 day deer gun season, bonus weekend deer gun season (2 days, 2 weeks after our full gun season), 4 day muzzleloader season, and all summer hunting groundhogs.

I usually get close to 30 days on dedicated hunting trips where I’m gone away from home (9-10 days for elk, ~12-15 days duck hunting, 4-5 days turkey hunting, maybe 1 fishing trip). I didn’t count the times I’m hunting or fishing around the house but it’s probably 50-60 or so total, a lot of those are quick outings that I have to squeeze in before my kids weekend games, church, work etc. I feel very fortunate that my wife and kids allow me to do what I love.

I’m probably at 30+

I like to go out shooting once or twice a month and plan on taking a week off to hunt this year

10-20 days hunting and fishing hoping to do more in the future, Not much time right now to do more working 2 jobs to get my wife through nursing school.

60+ days of hunting. Bow, upland and big game hunting (rifle & shotgun seasons).

I usually take 5 weeks vacation every year dedicated to hunting Whitetails…and this year I will be doing my first Montana Elk hunt. My wife has became exceptionably understanding…she used to get frustrated with me hunting all the time but leaves me be now.
