Yeah I've been thinking of getting on food stamps too but I'm too much of a gear whore and gear is expensiveI'd turn to a life of crime before I wasted away in an office for long hours wishin' I was fishin'. I live where I live and do what I do so I can do what I want to do. I could do otherwise and have more money, but then I'd be paying people who do what I want instead of doing it myself.
It's not perfect by a long shot, but it's as close to the balance point as I've been able to achieve.
I was curious about how many full days totally dedicated to uninterupted enjoyment of the backcountry guys are able to get but it looks like most are including that after-work evening hunt/fish/range-day as a day out doing their thing, and why shouldn't they. 100 days out in the sticks/on the water is a blessing no matter how you slice it. Good on you my man. All these comments, including yours, about involving the kids showed me how little I include my 12 and 8 year old boys in my outings. Kinda feel bad about it. Definetly changing that starting now.How strict are we talking with “days”? If getting off work and taking the kids fishing for an hour or getting in the woods to hunt deer the last couple hours of daylight counts then I’m probably around the 100 number. If we are talking true full dedicated hunting, scouting, etc days then cut that in half
Funny you mention that. Drives my wife and kids crazy when they use the truck. The back of my truck is a mess of gear all year long, it just morphs from a pile of hunting gear to trapping gear and back to hunting gear at around April. Not enough days.
I think another good thread topic is how to make it easier to get out there. Does anyone else keep boots and camo in their car to quick change after work for scouting or hunting?
I never go out without at minimum a revolver in the truck and 95 percent of the time a rifle. The dash tray has coyote calls. Binos in the console, extra ammo of 2 dozen different types in door pockets and ash trays. Not enough days.

Oh yeah I am blessed where I live. On the family farm where we have quite a few ponds and a big creek running through our backyard so if we don’t have a practice or game for whatever sport they are all in at the time we’ll walk down to the creek or one of the ponds. The kids basically live in the creek all summer. Don’t feel too bad about leaving the kids out some though! I spend a substantial part of the fall out west by myself. It’s already hard enough to get a good deer down. Throw in a 9 year old and it gets real tricky hahaI was curious about how many full days totally dedicated to uninterupted enjoyment of the backcountry guys are able to get but it looks like most are including that after-work evening hunt/fish/range-day as a day out doing their thing, and why shouldn't they. 100 days out in the sticks/on the water is a blessing no matter how you slice it.
