How much does it cost to have some beetles clean a skull ?

Been kicking around getting some beetles and an old non-op large chest freezer to clean skulls and up to coyote size carcasses. The issue would be having enough to feed such an operation. I'm sure a stray cat or two would make the Grand kids happy to reassemble. But I would need year around food for the Beatles Larva and would need to make some money for up keep and such. So are there any Beatle guys out there now that take in and charge a fee ?

Cleaning skulls with beetles is only part of the job. The rest includes prep, degreasing, and whitening. We have a local guy that does them here. I think he gets around $100 for a deer and $150 for an elk or bear.

Yeah, Newberg has a video on his youtube channel somewhere where he goes into one of those operations and they go through it step by step....way more complicated than I thought it would be fore sure!

This place is a little high ($140 for deer) but museum quality. Mike Rowe did an episode of Dirty Jobs there. I've got a friend who's daughter had her 3 legged rescue greyhound articulated there.

Taxidermist on Prince of Wales sends all of his bear skulls there too .

I’ve paid $42 each for deer/bear shills and know of others charging $100 for deer/bear. This is in the Pittsburgh PA area. Good luck if you choose this adventure!

I have done a lot of them and a really good degreased skull is the best look IMO. No need to whiten them just set out in the sun for a few days after degreasing and then seal them

Last I paid someone it was about $110 for me to drop off a head and pick it up completely done and whitened.

FWIW I now do my own by boiling, pressure washing, peroxide, and it costs me somewhere around $6.

Yeah probably the same place I go. I’ll post a flyer of his when I pick my wife’s euro mount up. He gets shipments from people all over the country. Custom skull cleaning on Facebook.
