How many rounds to you take when on an out of state trip? Particularly if your cartridge of choice is unlikely to be on a shelf in the store?

I take 40 with me. Ten on my person or in my pack, 30 in the truck incase of a scope problem. We, as a group, usually have at least one spare scope, torque driver, and a bore sighter in the tool kit in the truck. Last time I looked there was even a set of Talley one pc. mounts for a 700 in there also. That all came from a dear friend that has since passed. He was adamant about that kit going in the truck first.

2 mags of 4, a sleeve of 10, and 1 in my emergency kit. (The sleeve of ten is for rocks and yotes off the gut pile)

Use a weapon system that does not fail and you wont have re-zero your rifle everytime you sneeze. There is a very extensive thread on here to help guide you.

I’m on my way to BC now…. I brought 40, but also brought a backup gun with another 20. Just in case I bounce off a rock or fall or anything. Since I’m driving, bringing an extra to camp is easy

My backup shoots the same load as my primary.
Mine does too.

All of my rifles (of same caliber) shoot the same load.

I just load one load that works for all the rifles of that particular caliber. It makes it easy to keep ammo. I got one ammo can for each caliber.

I always get anxiety about this and overpack. Bringing 20 this year to fill 4 tags + coyotes. In theory it’s way too many but I still overthink it

First hunt this year. Not out of state, but ~7 hours away. I'll bring 50 since the reloading box holds that many and my OCD would have me thinking about not filling the box. 😂 I'm planning to carry 10 at a time. 4+1 in rifle, 5 in one of those nifty plastic Norma ammo holders. We are doing day hike/hunt, camp at truck.
