I have shot several whitetails high shoulder with the bow out of a tree stand. Mechanicals blew right through the scapula (imagine that?)

I can't say if they die any quicker, because it seems if you put a Broadhead anywhere through the rib cage they are dead in 45 seconds regardless of where.

Best place to shoot any animal in my opinion. Animals can make it a long way even with proper heart or lung shots. I prefer to shoot trophy animals high shoulder. Meat hunting, mostly does, prefer neck shot with no meat loss. I shot a 7STW for a period of about 10yrs. Shot lots of white tail on highly managed ranches, never lost a single one and most fell where they stood.
So if it's an animal your going to mount or a trophy your cool with some meat loss on the shot to make sure you can mount it or it doesn't run off.

I am, bigger the animal or the closer they are to the property line all goes through my head before pulling the trigger.

A long time ago I encountered a gent wandering through the woods talking to himself. He had shot a great 7x8 bull elk in the shoulder and it ran off. It took a long time asking questions before I could piece through the events. At 30 yds he had shot a high shoulder shot like he always does and the elk didn't fall. He failed to understand that the spines on a big bull's thoracic vertebrae can be 6 - 7 inches plus 2-3 inches of mane tends to bring that real target a lot lower than you think. He had placed his shot above the spine.

I tend to shoot behind the elbow when I can't shoot them in the upper neck.
