How many animals do you hunt in a year?

Hunt mule deer every year. Antelope every other. Elk when me or family/friend can get a tag. Hunt waterfowl every year. Good portion on private but some public

Whitetail every year, allowed 2 bucks and 10 doe in michigan.
Blackbear most years in ontario
Going to add a week of grouse hunting this year in ontario as well.
Averaging every other year for moose or caribou in Alaska
Most years I've squeezed in a hunt for something out west. Elk/antelope/mountain lion.
Not as much as some of you folks but I feel very fortunate with what I've been able to hunt.

Hi guys, as you can understand from my bad english i am not american. I always read your threads and i really like your way of hunting, much more than the rigid dogmatic way of central europe. In my country, Italy, we are lucky. Hunting is strictly regulated but you still have some freedom of movement after you survive to all the damned burocracy. And we can hunt basically as many animals as we want in two specific periods of the year on public land.

So i am curious about how many animals you kill each year and of which species on public land. I speak of public land because i assume most private land hunt are a joke like here in Italy, where basically the owner points you the deer and almost squeeze the trigger for you 😂

Edit: i like your hunting style so much (and without knowing it, i found out that is very similar to mine) that I will participate to a shoot to hunt class in the future if i manage to (trying to organize at the moment being on the other side of the planet!)
All public land for me, but every year I hunt

Roosevelt elk
Blacktail deer
Merriams turkey/occasionally rios but only if my favorite area is snowed out when it opens

Black Bear
Mountain lion
Coyote

Varies but generally a lot assuming I get asked to help cull.

But @ min just myself every year

1-2 Mule deer
Elk
pronghorn
Bear
Min 5 WT
Aoudad

Tell us more about hunting in Italy. How common is it for the average person? What weapon restrictions apply? How difficult is it to get a hunting license? Is there much competition? Do you butcher the animals yourself or do you take them to a professional butcher?

For my hunting in the western USA.

Big Game: Every year I have tags for Elk, Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, Antelope, Black Bear, Wolf, Mountain Lion.
Small Game: Turkey (5 per year), Forest Grouse (4 per day), Snowshoe Hare ( 8 per day), Ducks (7 per day), Geese (4 per day).

I focus more on big game and kill 3-4 per year (Usually 1 elk, 1 mule deer, 1 whitetail, and 1 bear). Hunting with my sons yields another 2-3 animals per year.
Small game is more casual. I might duck/goose hunt 2-3 days, grouse 3-4 days, other upland birds 3-4 days. Snowshoe hare 1-2 days, Turkeys 2-3 days. This might add up to 20 small game animals per year.

Success rates are generally not high here in the western USA. Success on bull elk usually average 15-20%. I allocate an entire week of hunting for one elk. Deer are similar, hunters will plan on a full week of hunting for a 30-40% success rate. Antelope success rates are very high 70-90% if hunting with a rifle. Wolves and coyotes are targets of opportunity. I rarely target them specifically but always have the option if I see one. Mtn lions require hounds to reliably hunt. I have killed only one mtn lion by regular hunting methods.

I am fortunate to live very close to public land I can hunt. I average 15-20 days each fall hunting big game. I probably spend 5-8 days hunting bears each spring.

Usual
1 elk
2 deer
1-2 pronghorn (when I draw every 2-3 years)
1 cow (every other or every 3rd year)

Usually tripple those numbers for the the kills I witness each year with friends and family.
