How long do you go without showering?

For many years I was a “shower before work” guy. Now I’m a “shower after work guy”. During Covid (when I was still a shower before work guy) I’d let it go three or even four days. Back in the day in a one room cabin in AK with no running water… two weeks was about the limit (in winter).

Someone has to study the phenomenon on here. I see 10 threads a day that ask a clear, easy question-followed by the very first post who doesn't see it, didn't read it, or comprehension is taking the day off.....then many more answer about the opposite of the question.

Twice a day. Once before picking up the kids in the evening which is my first public appearance most days and again after working out which is right before going to bed.

I put down every twelve hours, but I generally shower more often than that in the summer. I know it’s probably better for my skin to shower less frequently, but I love a hot shower. On my best days, I will take the dog for a hike, then shower, then workout a bit later, shower again, and then shower again before bed.

In Afghanistan, I went over a month without a shower. I don’t want to do that again. For a few days, you smell yourself, then you stop noticing it, then you start noticing it again. That’s not a great sign.

The rotten pickle smell of a couple hundred Marines packed into an auditorium was always the worst part of ending the 4-week live fire portion at Twentynine Palms.

Shower habits change during retirement

Most of the year usually every night. Winter time I might go 2 days, maybe 3 if I have not been very active.

One of my favorite modern folk sayings is from my time working for a swiss company. The old school swiss guys had a saying that roughly was “he takes warm showers”, which was a derogatory comment about someone being soft. Ie Men take either an ice cold shower or a scalding hot shower, but anything in between was a sign of weakness. Ive always taken this to heart.

It strikes me there is a real classification of people in this. Curious where folks fit into this and what it says about them.

I suppose someone could even plot this in 3 dimensions with shower duration?
