How long do strings last

Once my bow is tuned, I hate to change anything. I have had the same string on my bow for five or more years and would rather reserve than replace the entire string. I will change it out once it starts to rotate or get out of tune.
I used to really cake on the string wax which just attracted dirt and wore the string out faster. Now I use the scorpion venom string fluid infrequently and make sure I wipe off as much as I can after applying. It seems to be working well.

I would peel back that serving and make sure there isn’t damage to the string. The one I just fixed had a single broken strand, my buddy was OK with just clipping it and serving it back in. I would replace them if it had been mine since it’s several months before the season but his bow was new last year and he doesn't really want to spend $125 on a new set.
