For early first week of September how important is a north facing slope for both deer and elk? I have a spot that I'm thinking of hiking into first that last time I was in the area I saw tons of deer and tons of elk sign. But it is a southeastern slope. This is the mountain. It has water and lots of grazing area for animals and is a really steep hike up for hunters which is good.

I would be betting most of my time on the left side where they will be moving from this timbered south side to the north side. I really like that little pinch about 2/3 up on the left. The north side of that little chute will be shaded by mid morning.

IMHO deer are where you find them. I have a spot where most of the bucks are on a southern, south-western slope. There's food, water and cover, and most people overlook it....

That is where i was seeing alot of deer and the creek just below that in the timber is where i was finding tons of elk from elk moving down there at night.

I scouted a place this last weekend that was a south facing slope and it had a lot of deer. When the sun comes up though it seems they will be out longer on a north facing slope. Will just have to be in the right spot early in the morning or late at night.
