UPDATE:
Today marks 2 months since the surgery. I’m feeling a little better each day. I have more strength and more energy. Still dealing with headaches everyday. They said that would last a while. Another minor setback is my vision is blurry in my right eye ever since the surgery. When my facial nerve was cut I lost the ability to blink so the doctors did another surgery placing a small platinum weight in my eyelid. When I relax my face the weight pulls my eyelid down but it doesn’t shut tight. I went to an eye doctor last week and and he said it’s just super dry and to use eye drops every half hour. I hope it clears up so I can shoot my bow!
The doctors also cleared me to drive and exercise. Before the surgery I was very active going to the gym everyday and doing pretty physical construction. I’m very eager to get back in shape and this Saturday my wife and I are going to check out a new CrossFit class. Super excited! I also started spring semester this week, taking 2 classes online. I’m a senior and hope to graduate this fall with a bachelors degree in criminal justice.
Thank you all for your prayers and support!
UPDATE:
Today is 66 days since the surgery. I tried drawing my bow but couldn’t do it so I dropped the poundage from 70 to 60. Barely managed to pull it back! I have a rinehart block in my cold storage closet at 7 yards. I was able to take a few shots and the feeling was amazing. So blessed.
Thats a hell of a story brother, thanks for sharing. As has already been said, you have a beautiful family and a great outlook on things, so keep the positive attitude and continue to grind it out. You’ll be back on the hunt before you know it!
UPDATE:
Planning to go back to work in about 3 weeks. Gotta get used to 4:30 alarms again. CrossFit is in full swing. I’m much weaker but it’s slowly coming back. Tried jump rope today and it felt good. Also a friend of mine generously helped me apply for Wyoming general elk! Super excited! First time I have applied out of state. My odds probably aren’t great with 0 points but I will hope and pray. As far as Utah goes I plan to put in for bear, archery antelope, archery mountain goat, and archery mule deer. OTC elk as well
UPDATE:
Went back to work yesterday! Feeling great. Getting fitted for new hearing aids next week. Went on a nice 11 mile hike on Tuesday to get a trail cam. Feeling extremely blessed to be back doing the things I love. I was unsuccessful for the black bear tag. Fingers crossed for Wyoming elk
Thanks for the updates! You're already tougher than woodpecker lips given your attitude, cross fit, back to work after all you've been through. Can't wait to hear about your hunting this spring and fall. God bless you.
UPDATE:
Our family just moved down to Blanding Utah last week. My wife got a good job offer. We are loving spending time outdoors and the small town lifestyle. I’m looking for a new job possibly in construction. I’m excited to do some scouting on the famous San Juan unit which is where I will probably be hunting spike elk this fall. I started practicing my shooting a few days ago and started the cold bow challenge this morning. My eye is still giving me some trouble. I got a new hard contact lens a few weeks ago and it helps a little. Hopefully that nerve heals up and my vision improves. I hope everyone is staying safe during this COVID19 disaster. Stay positive. It will pass.
I saw your post on the cold bow challenge and wondered about the story. Thanks for sharing it! You’re providing a lot of perspective for the rest of us. Really glad to see you’ve recovered so much already!
