3 black bears in Washington, 75, 100, and 150 yards. Average range to see them is 100-150 yards in the thick conifer forest or huckleberries. Experienced the same in Oregon hunting the same type of terrain.
<30 yards, never shot one farther than that and I've shot them as close as 7. Bears are typically not difficult to get close to and in my opinion shooting one from long range just robs yourself of the incredible experience of shooting one up close and personal and feeling that death moan in your bones
