How far do you feel comfortable using the .223 on coyotes?

I want to see your sources that follow the scientific process.

With some of my ARs with shorter barrels…300-400 yards.
With my tikka t3x running 77 TMKs…600+ yards.

It all depends on the projectile, and muzzle velocity and shot placement.

If there's any animal that's ok to take a ridiculously long poke at, it's a coyote. I've tried it out to 600 - ish with an AR. I didn't care if I hit it (I knew I wouldn't), I just wanted him to know that I knew that he was out there.

Now if I have to actually make an ethical hit on it, 300 yards. They don't stand still long enough for me to do any better than that.

Made my longest hit with a 223 last weekend. 525 yards from my front deck with a 18 inch ar . Nosler 77 grain CC . I think I hit him a little low and back, at the shot his butt hit the ground but he got up and made it to cover. Not my finest moment but that coyote won't be back to kill a chicken. If I can see a coyote, I'm taking the shot . To date my best shot were at 780 yds with a 308 and 400ish with a 45 colt revolver. But I can miss at any range. My best shots are usual around the house at known ranges .
