How do YOU shoot?

I hunt in the Eastern woods and always have. Its a lot easier for me to quickly get game in the scope in thicker woods with both eyes open. I started out as a boy shooting running rabbits and squirrel's and flying doves with a shotgun so maybe thats where I got the habit of keeping both eyes open. I didn't start hunting deer and hogs with a scoped rifle until I was well into my 20’s.

I’ve been shooting archery with one eye, but this off season I’m working on switching to both eyes open. A week in and I’m already shooting tighter groups at close range, but we’ll see what happens once the weather warms up and I start shooting outside further out.

I learned from the start to shoot both Firearms and Archery with both eyes open. I do have little trick I started using when I shoot my compound bow with multiple pins. I start with both eyes fully open as I acquire the target better that way, but as I settle my pin into the frame I ever so slightly squint with my non-dominate eye, just enough to slightly blur the vision in the eye. This all happens in just a couple seconds. I also started doing the same thing when I shoot rifle. It works really well for me thru my process.

Right handed, right eye dominant.

Scopes, acquire target both eyes close left for precision aim. Same for bow.

Shotgun and pistol’s both eyes always

Both eyes open. For some reason with one eye closed I tend to anticipate the shot > I don't know why.

Acquire the target and settle in with one eye then open the other eye for the shot and follow through.

Both open on bows, pistols, and shotguns but close my left eye looking through a rifle scope

I didn't read all the comments so not sure if anyone touched on it. But it would be interesting to see the age and how people answer on shotgun. I know my FIL, dad, uncles, grandpa etc. mostly learned to shoot with one eye as a general rule. I learned from them a bit obviously but adopted both eyes open and now that seems to be the norm.

Rifle generally one eye closed and Archery both eye except at longer ranges 60+yds. 50 and in and 100% 30 yards and in I have two eyes open.

Pistols one eye. Everything else two eyes open

Both eyes open with everything. With magnified optics, I'm really only focusing through the eye on the scope.

right handed, left eye shut for looking through scopes. Left eye squinted but not closed for iron sights.
