How do YOU shoot?

Has anyone come across, or developed any exercises that have helped being able to shoot with both open? Maybe its as easy as just time with the rifle focusing on the sight picture dry firing? Maybe even close eyes, open and acquire a clear reticle picture on target and repeat if successful or wait until it does? Maybe start with closed eye, move to squinting, then gradually squint less until its full open? Curious to see if anyone has deliberately worked on that, sounds like some of you have.

I always shot firearms both eyes open but transitioning that to archery was a little tough. I always shot one eye closed and when I made the decision to have both eyes open I started by squinting my non-dominant eye. Occasionally closing that eye to make sure I’m looking at the correct set of pins as it is like seeing two sets of them through the peep. Within a week or two of consistent shooting I noticed I naturally had both open without thinking about it. Make sure you have a big backstop because you will shoot a couple a full foot left or right at the start

Well... chewy is leading that poll 53% to 47%. So i think there's a preponderance of one eyed shooting, cool ranch munching, chewy bacon lovers out there. My methods are very scientific so its a waste of anyones time to challenge this obviously logical conclusion. Once again, because I shoot one eyed and love chewy bacon and cool ranch.... I am convinced that most (over 53%) others do as well. Prove me wrong!!!

Both eyes open, scoped rifle, iron sights, handgun either hand both eyes open, shot a buck left handed with a rifle because that is the shot I had, archery both eyes open.

Right handed, Left eye dominant, Left side uncoordinated AF. Shoot right handed with left eye closed.

Would be pretty cool to shoot with both eyes open though.

This right here but flipped. I’m left handed and right eye dominant. With pistols I can shoot both open, but long guns it’s right eye closed.

Both eyes open on moving targets for depth perception and judgment of speed. One eye closed for static.

Right handed and left eye dominant. Handguns I use left eye, both eyes open. Rifle irons/scope, right eye, left eye closed. Rifle red dot both eyes open.

When I was younger and shot more, I would find a change in dominant eye as the season progressed. Consequently in pass shooting I had to pay attention as to where I was hitting the birds to work harder to compensate. Otherwise one direction or the other would lead to more wounded birds.

Since I was looking through a scope with the rifle I never noted much change. In heavy timber I had to have both eyes open however the right eye was on the crosshairs while the left kept track of where the critter was in the brush along with where the shooting lanes were.

I shoot archery with my left eye closed and both eyes open with my rifle. But then I find myself switching back and forth on either eye when I use a spotter.

I shoot scoped rifles one eye open, red dot rifles both eyes open, iron sight rifles one eye open, shotgun both eyes open, handguns both eyes open, compound bow one eye open, trad bows both eyes open. Right handed right eye dominant.

Cross dominant shooter.

Both eyes "open" non dominant eye squinted to where it's almost closed.

This is wild, I didn't actually think this would get that many responses. I'm genuinely surprised at the closeness between 1E and 2E shooters for both disciplines. I was expecting a bigger gap than that, favouring the 1E crowd. Not that the firearm crew is all that close, but again, closer than I thought. Should have added slingshots and crossbows.... Shocked no one mentioned the crossbow at least!

I shoot archery both eyes open and cross eye dominant.

I retrained eye dominance for shooting.
