How do you attach a sling to a Mossberg 500?

Trying to put a new Montana sling (grovtec hardware) on a Mossberg 500. The magazine cap is tapped for a sling stud, but the sling stud rotates the threaded magazine cap loose. This makes the barrel slightly loose (though it can't come off with a sling on) and it's annoying. I think the magazine cap needs to be able to spin independently of the sling stud for this to work.

Is there a smarter way?

If it has an extended mag tube, you can get a clamp that mounts to the barrel and mag tube with a sling swivel on it. Made for tactical applications, but will work well in a hunting situation. I think Brownell's has several, or Mesa Tactical.
