How do I track this guy down?

Cubdriver, thanks for all the help. Still not sure what is happening. I'm going to try taking this to Scheels and see if they have a different opinion than the two guys at sportsman's. May call Leupold and see how they came up with that other model? Then again that doesn't help me out at all. At any rate, cubdriver is a stand up dude. Wish I could delete this thread

I'm just glad it turned out to not be a counterfeit... Hope you get it figured out!

We have had a couple people come in wanting fakes mounted. Most of the fakes are coming off the wish app. The ones we have seen have had a very similar but wrong logo. Coloring has been off. Obviously terrible glass compared to real ones. The wrong font and lettering on the model and serial numbers. Some are very hard to tell but those are the areas we have noticed.

I wouldn't trust anybody behind the counter at Sportsman's or Scheels to know jack about squat. There are definitely some knowledgeable people that work at some of their locations but they're not all experts about guns/hunting/optics.

I wouldn't have someone at Sportsman's or Cabelas mount my scope. I would check the mounts if I was you and if you're sure everything is correct, send the scope to Leupold for warranty.

Just an idea, but are the rings a matched set? ie medium/medium, not a tall/low or something of the like? Many people open packages and look at rings trying to figure out what height for a rifle & scope. Maybe the pair got mixed up.

He did grab two packs to see which had the best amount of clearance.......hmmm....

Seen it before. Hopefully you don’t have a nice crease in the tube if that was the case.

Had similar problem trying to zero a friends vx-3i. Try getting the scope mounted and level. Then get it back to "factory zero" meaning dead in the middle of both elevation and windage. Then try to bore sight and zero at 100. Not sure if you have done this, but something to try.

I think the real problem has surfaced. He had someone at Sportsmans mount the scope, they fubar'd it and then declared the scope a counterfeit.

Technically Leupold also told me it was a fake. But I'm thinking the 'AD' part of the serial number could have been heard as 'AB'. Going to head to Brownells to have everything checked and reassembled. Hopefully the guys at sportsman's didn't mess up the scope.

Ahhh....

I didn't know Brownells had a retail location but they should know what they're doing. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

You must be close to me if you're going to Brownells. If you are in fact in central Iowa and Brownells doesn't get you straightened out talk to Michael at Controlled Chaos Arms by Baxter. He should be able to get you fixed up.

I am in Polk City. Brownells is a bit of a drive, but this has been a fiasco, so I want to go to a place I can trust. Didn't think mounting a scope was that hard. Would have bought the stuff and done it myself in hindsight. Where are you located?

I had that issue earlier this year, VX6HD was shooting feet high even cranked all the way down.Removed and replaced everything a few times. Come to find out, the guy at Ferrall had sent me the wrong base....
Hope you get it figured out and get to enjoy the scope. Side thought, seems the seller knew there was a problem, sent it in, and sold the problem to you.....I'd still feel I'd want my money back if he's willing..

I'm in Newton. I'd call or email Michael at CCA. He's a top notch gunsmith.
