How are you carrying InReach Messenger

I have an InReach Messenger (actual Messenger, not the Mini) on the way, but it seems like it doesn't come with much of a mounting/carrying solution. How are folks attaching that unit to either yourself or your pack? Stuff it inside of the lid of my pack on top of everything? It looks like Garmin has a cradle mount now with a carabiner that might be ok.

I usually carry mine in my pack in an easy to get pocket. I typically connect Bluetooth and send messages in my phone through their app.

I've got mine on the aziak mount under my bino harness. Out of the way and still sends messages pretty well.

EDIT: It's late and apparently I don't read well so disregard that. I have saw similar mounts for the messenger, and it seems they would work great on the lid of a pack.

Side pocket of my bino pouch. Don’t use it that often but keep it on my person in case I do need it and have it in reach.

I got it on a shoulder strap of my fhf bino harness using the aziak mount. That way it's always on me, if I dont have my pack, like for stalks or when nature calls or cutting up an animal.

To ensure the best reception, you need to carry it so that the antenna faces up. If it's just tossed in a pocket, who knows what position it will be in, and that could affect reception, and if you have the tracking feature on, it may not provide accurate position updates. There have been a few false SOSs sent out because of the units being thrown into a pocket. These were with older units, but it showed that it can happen. I would place it in the lid of my Teratorn under the shock cord to hold it in place. This is the reason why I prefer the Mini, as it's much easier to keep the antenna pointed up.

The bino harness comment got me thinking about that more. I'm more likely to always have that on me vs. my pack. Maybe the side elastic pocket on my Marsupial bino pack would be a good spot. Should be able to keep the antenna pointed the right direction that way and be safe from accidentally hitting the wrong button in a pocket or pack pouch.

I carry mine with the carabiner clipped around the left shoulder strap of my Alaska Guide bino pack. It could swing around but doesn’t tend to- it mostly settles right between the bino pack and my chest.

FYI - the unit doesnt have to be on to send an SOS

This is true but it has to acquire satellite lock before the message can be sent and if you keep the unit off you loose the other safety feature of sending your position every 10 minutes or whatever you set it as. The tracking feature is the big reason I carry an InReach because it allows my wife or anyone I want to share a map link with the ability to see my current location and send me a message and check in if I haven’t moved in a predetermined time. In an event in which I may be unable to signal for help the tracking feature allows for LEO/SAR to have my last known point within 10 minutes. As a SAR responder having a good starting point saves critical time.
