I would be down but this coming week is going to be busy. Gonna be hauling the kids around solo due to the wife going out of town. I really only have Monday, Saturday or Sunday that I could work something out. You looking to just grab a beer or you talking a hike or something?Roll Call for Houston Area Western Hunters……I’m in Cypress area and looking to schedule a met up next week week before Spring Bear somewhere if anyone is interested
Wow how do I get in touch with you guys. I just posted n here for the first time looking for a hunting partner and was directed here. I am in Beaumont area , thanks. TCWould be like a beers type thing, gauging interest but feel like there are enough in Houston area for a regular type meetup
I'll be following this thread. I'm in the Kingwood area. Looks like we are kinda spread out around the Houston area, Spring, Cypress, Tomball, and I'm sure there are others outside the Houston area. But yeah that would be cool to do some type of regular meetup.Wow how do I get in touch with you guys. I just posted n here for the first time looking for a hunting partner and was directed here. Yes it is! I rucked my loaded pack 6 miles around the woods of Memorial Park yesterday as part of trying to get ready for Alaska sheep in a couple months.Energy Corridor area here... I hit a lot of stairs and try to jog 3x per week. Really tough for us flatlanders to be ready to be mountain goats with our terrain

What we don’t have in elevation we more than make up for in mosquitoes and heat! I found both yesterday in excess.
I either run or walk the Jones State Forest almost daily with my dog, it’s nice big trails for the kids if they come, but I like even though it’s getting busier (weather and time of year), can get away from the crowds. It’s nice to be able to get some miles in easily.I'm on the north side in The Hoodlands. Not too far from the Sam. Jones State forest is close too and used to be some good trails for getting in miles.

I’m also not far from Sam Houston, but haven’t ventured out there yet.
My brother in law is doing the Leadville 100 in August and I’m one of his pacers, I only have to do an 8 mile stretch but it’s going to be some of the most elevation gain of the entire part where pacers are allowed.Houston is definitely tough for hunting training. For my Dall hunt last year I was in the gym everyday using the MTN Tough programs. I am down in Heights so spent a lot of time also rucking my pack loaded up with weights across Memorial Park trails a few times week during the summer ahead of my mid-August hunt. In the Houston heat and humidity I got plenty of sweat but I feel like the flat ground was pretty inadequate for good preparation. The big lesson for me was that even though I trained for months ahead of the sheep hunt, I wish I would have trained twice as hard to be better prepared for the crazy steep mountains I was packing in and out of.
